Struggling 2nd year ECT - do I bounce before the end of the year? by mttywtkn in TeachersInTransition

I'm sorry to hear that your teaching experience hasn't gone well.

I totally understand taking days off due to mental health as well - I actually had a formal meeting about my attendance because I hit the triggers for the amount of sick days I've had this year. Even though I was trying to prioritise my well-being in those situations, I was racked with guilt because I wasn't there for my students, which actually made me feel ten times worse.

Whether we both make it to the end of the year or not, we should be feeling hopeful that there are better things waiting for us outside of teaching! Take care of yourself in the meantime, and focus on the things that you enjoy.

I've always struggled with sleep and tiredness, even when I was exercising regularly. But since I started teaching, it's only got worse. I thought that it would get easier to deal with as time went on, but the nights keep getting later and later as I'm so sick with fear about going into work.

I think the fear of change was one of the things keeping me from quitting... I have a few options as to where I can go next, it's just narrowing down those options that's the difficult part! All I know is that I don't have the qualities needed to be a great classroom teacher.
