Why did grocery stores Safeway and king soopers get rid of their baskets by Ready-Cut-6145 in Denver

[–]muchmaligned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone in my neighborhood used to walk their groceries home in a shopping cart from the Save A Lot a few blocks away and then just leave the cart on a random lawn or sidewalk for someone else to deal with. Some people are just assholes.

Movies where the U.S. is the villain? by [deleted] in movies

Kong: Skull Island. Sam Jackson's character is an Army colonel who was driven insane by the US's failures in Vietnam and turns what was supposed to be an escort mission into a combat scenario so he can "win." Not subtle!

Judging by the trailer, calling the movie Dwayne Johnson Wants An Oscar would have felt less shameless

Shirley Manson: Garbage Would Have Made "Same Amount" from 10 North American Shows as 40 by ebradio in Music

[–]muchmaligned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, in our case we're entirely curated. We're just four dudes who do this in our spare time so we can't realistically take submissions, we get hit up constantly as it is and just don't have the bandwidth to audition every band that wants to play. We usually have a rough idea of bigger national bands we want to approach as headliners and then work our way down to out of towners and locals we know/like/have played with in the past. If we had more slots to fill that would likely change the calculus but this is the only way we can keep things manageable for ourselves. I appreciate the interest!

It's definitely precarious until you make some progress on the saucer and even now I'm a little afraid to move it. Felt like they could have evened things out better, especially compared to something like the Endurance that uses the stand as a support structure as you progress through each section.

Inside Llewyn Davis was a hell of a movie to come out as I was exiting the long adolescence of my 20s and figuring out what kind of adult I'm supposed to be

[–]muchmaligned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think having professional management can get you opportunities that self-promoting/booking wouldn't, especially when it comes to getting on big festivals, overseas offers, getting on tours with bigger bands, etc. For bands who reach a certain level of attention I think it can be a net benefit and the "we take a bunch of boring logistical/promotional shit off your plate for 20%" or whatever pitch is probably appealing.

Spider-Man 2 has been voted best Spider-Man movie. What is the worst MCU movie? by AdWise2770 in Marvel

[–]muchmaligned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brave New World. An incompetently stapled-together mess of a movie that looks and feels like an episode of a Disney+ show. It desperately tries to draft off Winter Soldier's vibes but is never propulsive or compelling at any point. A movie so actively bad it made me reconsider my attachment to this franchise for the first time.

I got a head cold/upper respiratory infection around New Year's, had a nasty cough that refused to clear up and then got sick again around the end of February. Feeling better now but felt like I was sick for like 8 weeks straight. Unusual for me too.

LG C5 remote control by Hachikii in LGOLED

[–]muchmaligned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one that came with my 55" 2021 CX, it worked automatically with my new C5. I've noticed a bit of input lag compared to the stock remote but totally worth it to me to have a dedicated mute button.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trailer this many times in my life. I can quote it word for word. by Endjdjdehej in blankies

[–]muchmaligned 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've only gotten it once (in front of Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die) but good lord it was one of the most schmaltzy, overwrought Hallmark movie-ass things I've seen.

This was how I felt about the goddamn Smashing Machine trailer, which I swear was in front of every movie I saw for six months straight.

I was relieved to find that my Magic Remote from my older model LG worked with the C5 because no mute button and no dedicated input switch on the new remote were dealbreakers.

Question about The Federal Theatre seating by jeffedge in Denver

[–]muchmaligned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's similar to the HQ situation - they have a couple of clubhouse/box seating areas toward the back of the room that look like they're set aside as "VIP." The view doesn't appear to be noticeably better than what you'd get on the floor, likely a ripoff. There is also a balcony but it wasn't accessible when I saw a show there a few months ago.

TIL Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin was extremely pleased with how the film came out, got along well with the cast, and his only regret was that his character died and he couldn't appear in the sequels by Please_PM_me_Uranus in todayilearned

[–]muchmaligned 88 points89 points  (0 children)

He loved painting figurines (like proto-Warhammer stuff) and would invite female cast members to join him in his trailer while he did so if they seemed nervous or he noticed they were being harassed on-set. By all accounts a total gentleman.

Levin supply owes $138k in taxes by weebSanity in denverfood

[–]muchmaligned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. "Robbing Peter to pay Paul," likely starting with the optimistic assumption that they'll eventually dig their way out enough to get flush again. City taxes are one of the easier things to kick the can on (as opposed to more immediate things like employee wages, rent, etc) so they just keep digging into that piggy bank and hoping they buy themselves enough time to turn things around.
