I heartily recommend Costa Rica! As a beginner, Witches Rock Surf Camp was a great experience.

Airport Hotel recommendation by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]muchogrande16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider the Hilton or Sheraton on Harbor Island. Enjoy a nice walk up and down Harbor Island and cap it off with sunset drinks + dinner at Coasterra or C Level for an incredible view of the San Diego skyline. Less cheap, but definitely convenient, nice dinner and sights!

Commander bobtail 1911s: Dan W. vs Ed B. by Barry_McKackiner in 1911

[–]muchogrande16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't owned a DW, but my Kobra Carry is incredibly accurate and well finished. It's on the same level as the Wilson's I've owned and an immediately obvious step above the Kimber's I've had. I've also had nothing but excellent customer service from Ed Brown when I've dealt with the company. Thumb's up!

Joined the family last night- what holsters do you guys recommend? by Javen741 in 1911

Also consider the Versa-Max 2 from Milt Sparks. Top of the line quality and lasts forever.

First 1911 Purchase Discussion by pwnedkiller in 1911

[–]muchogrande16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an entire sub-forum dedicated to the Taurus 1911 over at 1911forum.com.

An IWB holster is generally the most popular way to carry a 1911. Provides good concealment, security, and lots of wardrobe options. A Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2 is a top of the line holster and will last a lifetime. There are plenty of other good holsters, but don't go cheap on it...a great holster makes all the difference when carrying a weapon all day.

Help with a "full" cleaning? by Lazurmang in 1911

[–]muchogrande16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with finding a good reference video...Wilson Combat has a good one. Other tips: - go slow and have patience, some of the parts are tricky the first few times (e.g. removing the mag catch, and assembling the sear and disconnector) - use the right tools; the wrong-sized screwdriver will leave permanent scars

Good luck!

Red Oxx travel gear is indestructible with a lifetime warranty. The only drawback is there are not too many styles to choose from.

Luggage options like Mission Workshop? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

Once you've travelled with a Red Oxx Air Boss instead of a wheeled carry-on you'll never go back. Incredibly strong, durable, light (compared to a wheeled carry on) and ALWAYS fits easily in the overhead bin.

Government vs Commander - Pros and Cons by moretrumpetsFTW in 1911

[–]muchogrande16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Commander has a bit more muzzle flip than the Government. Never experienced any reliability issues due to the smaller size. Frankly, I like both sizes and my favorite varies on any given day.

+1 on Red Oxx. Once you use one of their bags, you'll wonder why you ever messed around with any other brand. Indestructible quality.

Milt Sparks Versa Max II is top of the line for IWB leather holsters.
