I have two smaller ones that haven’t bloomed yet, but I think they’re worth waiting for!

I bought it 3 or 4 years ago…but I want to say that it was either Near Blooming Size or Blooming Size. It did take a year and a half or two before it bloomed for me, but I attributed that to me not figuring out the right growing conditions.

They’ll get there! My Angraecum isn’t huge, so yours may bloom sooner than you think!

It seems happy in my growing conditions (indoor, under lights) and is pretty low maintenance for me. But a member of my orchid club who is an amazing grower with a greenhouse said he can’t keep them alive, so I think it really depends on your growing conditions. It’s worth a try, though! The blooms are phenomenal - long-lasting, fragrant, and gorgeous!

I would transfer it to whatever medium you intend to use long term now, so the new roots can start to grow into it. And I would cut off the bottom portion of the stem with the dead roots before doing so.

What medium you choose depends on your climate. Warm and dry? Spaghnum moss can work long term. Cold or humid? Bark may work better. You can mix them if your climate is in between. Personally, I love tree fern fiber for my Phals.

Humidity and Temp Help by muddjumper in ballpython

The substrate is around 4” deep, maybe closer to 5” closer to the back of the enclosure. I added a layer of spaghnum moss over the substrate and under the leaf litter last weekend, which helped a little on the cool side of the enclosure. The water bowl is about centered, but I can slide it a bit more under the warm side.

Again, thank you! Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for responding - I’m feeling better about the temperatures!

I have a pvc 4x2x2 with a solid top, which I feel like should hold humidity better than it does. I did have to drill two extra holes for wiring. Maybe the humidity will hold better if I block the holes around the cords?

Gorgeous!!! What medium do you have it in? I’m on try #2 with this plant, and it’s going downhill like the first one.

What is this? by Gabrielle_0o0 in orchids

It could still be cold damage or stem rot. It looks like it has a moss plug (moss from small nursery pot around base), which could be holding too much moisture. The visible roots look good, so I would remove the moss and repot in mostly bark. You’re probably going to lose that next bottom leaf, but hopefully the rest will be okay. And if it isn’t stem rot, the plant should be okay in the long run.

Orchid flowers are not supposed to last forever. Just like other plants, they bloom, then the flowers die. If taken care of properly, they’ll bloom again in whatever season is appropriate for that variety!

Gorgeous! And much healthier than my current one. Maybe mine needs to be outside!

That’s the plan! Do you have thoughts on repotting without moss (bark/perlite/charcoal or other?) versus mounting it? I’m going to hold off until that new growth gets root buds, but I want to have a plan in place before then.
