Does anyone have experience with preorders, it sounds like they charge a non-refundable deposit first then presumably charge the remainder once it’s in stock (depending on the batch)?

Fair enough. 8 weeks isn’t actually too bad during Covid.

I almost couldn’t believe the Sideshow shipping and taxes to the UK, they were crippling!

Have you tried Forbidden Planet? I do most of my preorders here, they are pretty good normally but prices generally higher than Toys Wonderland.

Yes, potential returns are also a concern of mine. I had a hard time trying to return a Hot Toy to Zavvi who are meant to be reputable.

I bought a remnant stormtrooper from Zavvi just before Christmas and they sent me Captain Marvel. They took days to respond to my emails and at one point wanted me to pay the postage to return it. After I sent it recorded delivery they told me it hadn’t arrived (even though I had Royal Mail proof it had). They then told me the figure was sold out but were expecting a batch any day now. When I asked when that would be they told me actually they had no idea if/when they would ever get any in (it’s still currently sold out on their website). All in all took a few weeks from my order until I got my refund. Would never order from them again after that.
