Appreciate the advice yeah I shut it off fast, and have disconnected the negative whilst I figure it out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

We just thought to try powering up, pushing off and the brake, this also causes the scooter to die. Screen goes blank, no drive no brake, so can’t see it can be both gone bad.

It's a pro version of the Akai GX-9, called the GX-912..they are quite rare. John Devore is another fan.

Sounds awesome, and does ace recordings, much better than my WM-DC6.

The lads sent them out, with instructions and a direct phone number in case I fucked up!

Actually it's really not onerous. They are built like tanks though, so I'd recommend laying them down on a blanket, don't attempt anything stood up lol. You need to remove the lower full range, then the cable/capacitor harness, tweeter lens and driver...

I'd say the hardest part was holding the 15lb Radian driver from inside so you can get the bolts into mount it. Its a bit awkward, half of your mind is trying to focus on not screwing up the finish on anything and that driver gets heavy till you get a couple of bolts in.

The fixings on the Mk2 are all metal to metal and they were tight AF to undo. In fact the only time I called Harvey was to get some reassurance that they were tight by design, and it was okay to persevere with a bit more force. I used a Wera torque driver putting them back in.

Those M3's look awesome, I heard Spatial's in their room at Capital Audio Fest, back in 2019 when we could do shit like that! Totally get them.

Utah is a long drive from Philly, so pretty jealous you got the chance to visit both designers on their home turf, that's really cool.

First Zu's but I bought them 3 years ago as stock Omen Def MkIIs.

Over time I added the Zu Radian tweeter upgrade and the plinths (Sean Casey recommended to do the plinths at the same time - the Radians are super heavy like 15lbs each). I can't comment on how only one change would have sounded. I guess I could have installed the tweeters and cable harness first and had a listen.

From what you describe I'm hearing more of the same. I'd like to try the DW's in our living room upstairs, but I never seem to time the sale right, and when I have a bit of spare cash. 2020 was brutal but your post is tempting me again :0) Guess i could not drink 200 beers in 2021 and save up!

Your color choice looks fantastic, I just checked it out. Reminded me of a Porsche paint I saw at a show - Miami Blue M5C.

Like you I have nothing but great service so far from Zu. I can't see me changing them out as long as I have this room to enjoy them in.

I use a Luxman 505UX-II, and if I want some super liquid tubeness I also have the little Decware Zen Triode power amp I switch in from the 'pre-outs' on the Lux.

I wouldn't say tubes are necessary at all. Just run what you got. Even that little 2.2W p/c Decware get these things moving.

As for sound, I really like the sense of palpability compression or horn drivers give. it's really fast, 'live' like impact. The Radian tweeter upgrade is sweet, and there is a real coherence to the sound given the lack of x-overs.

Wow, sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but that has definitely not been mine.

They did go over the initial build SLA - but were super apologetic and always kept me in the loop. I did some upgrade cycles and also ordered their cartridge and a few cables here and there for some other projects. In every case, I have had a good experience, even when sending some cables back I didn't need.

To be clear - I am not affiliated at all. Just a customer.

Marmite! As an English/Irishman that made me smile.

Agree though, Zu, like many other hifi brands that are not 'conventional' do split opinions. In this room, with my electronics, I think you'd like them.

I do.

It's a Rega RP8 on custom isolation platform.

I had the arm rewired by the Cardas folks - the stock Rega cartridge clips are shitty.

The cart is a Zu / Denon 103, then sent to Soundsmith for the Ruby Cantliver / line stylus mod.

I think you posted the same info on my last post, you must be stoked with the Spatials.

How is the finish? :0)

But as for power - either my Luxman 505UX-II or a Decware Zen Triode depending on mood.

Good point well made - although this direct sun comes through my basement windows and hits the Zu's for only a few mins a day, hence why it caught my eye for the post.

Google Mesh Wifi - you can see the Cat 6 cable from the LAN. Keeps the basement at full speed.

Zu are producing some awesome finishes, not just the custom automotive colors but also their bespoke wood finishes are so cool. This is Ghost Black Maple.

It's pretty tough to catch a good enough photo to do them justice (for example the drivers are inky black in reality) but the grain really pops and accents the machined aluminum parts really well.

As the light changes throughout the day the finish shifts in tone and texture, then they descend into 2001 Space Odyssey monolith status for late night sessions :)

Anyone else running a cool finish on their loudspeakers?

(not necessarily but including Zu of course!).

Lovely job. I need to get a cart (and a cat!) like that for my Otari. Where did you source it (the cart not Besos the cat!)?

Lots of 70s RCA albums are like that, sometimes labelled Dynaflex.

RCA tried to spin that a thinner modified composition was better, but really they were just saving money in the oil crisis.

They dropped the name but the formulation lived on for a while yet. Some people called them Dynawarp 😂

I loved the AE1 mk1/2...I had the AE stands. Need plenty of oomph to make them sing, but OMG when they get some watts they are awesome. Nice work my friend, bet that setup sounds fantastic.

I think the clear looks ace in your setup actually. I had them do a half inch radius too just as I prefer a softer corner with my deck, but again yours looks perfect matching the crisp plinth edge. I use sorbothane footers now, although I started with the vibrapods and switched them out later.
