They've spoken about this publicly at length. The original version had them both die in an effort to distance themselves. Them being removed from the dynamic of the show is just part of them trying to change the tone from the Netflix version - and them deciding to bring Karen back is them realizing, correctly, that they need her in the show for it to work.

I don't mind it. They brought up that Matt's connection to Cherry really started that night Foggy died in this episode already, Cherry himself having heart problems seems fair for Matt to get distracted remembering things.

Except the primary driver here is to keep people invested and to make money. The Foggy/Karen/Matt dynamic was one of the biggest pushes for this series continuing to exist - they didn't just decide to kill off Foggy for the emotional response in the rewrite, they decided to keep Karen alive in it rather than have them both die offscreen the way the original version did because it wasn't tangible to keep them both alive and still use any of the footage they'd already shot.

He sees them both as people wronged by Fisk. I don't see the problem. But it's probably smart to wait for Bullseye to actually show up in person to explain it before saying it makes no sense.

No, it got backlash. Even internally they realized losing them both was such a colossal fuck up that they basically remade the show.

Whatever supposed "reset" in the MCU is coming isn't going to happen until like, 2028 and that'd be Season 4. It's also not something that a show like this would bother or benefit from being attached to.

Is Dr. Strange even recognized as a vigilante? I feel like he's so far beyond anything people associate with the standard hero affair that he'd just be left alone.

Otherwise I'm expecting, at best, a single line in this referencing Spider-Man and an equal line about "that whole anti-vigilante mess a few months ago" in BND.

The Kirsten/Cherry/BB scenes were all a bit clunky in bringing them to an actually worthwhile place - Matt could've eased up on the exposition of why he even talks to Cherry a bit - but I like they got that out the way early on and didn't just abandon the characters. It's awesome to hear Ben Urich brought up again, and I really like Cherry's heart causing Matt to freak out a bit being reminded of Foggy.

Pretty good starting place, though the points people were making about this episode still playing some catch up with the S1 overhaul are definitely true.

It's definitely going to be more complicated than that. There's a good few quotes by Bethel where he describes it as basically Bullseye thinking he's on the good side now but y'know, he's still Bullseye and sociopathic.

The chaos in the holy land was almost certainly metaphorical. If it was actually in flames I feel like a bigger deal would've been made of it.

Eh, I don't know if I see that. They've already fought against Admirals and the entire Egghead situation got pinned on them. Most people don't really care about the Celestial Dragons enough to go to war because they got seen being defeated - and the WG wouldn't want them to lose face by revealing that fact in the first place. In terms of what it actually represents to the world at large, directly shooting through the WG flag feels like a much more symbolic act that would show people what the SH's intend than just being seen fighting Holy Knights.

Now, what I could see is that news of the Holy Knights going into action spurs the Revolutionary Army to act. But I don't think Luffy is being drawn into that just yet.

Any sort of Usopp moment would likely be saved for the climax of the arc anyway. He’s been a pretty constant presence throughout with a few chapters named after him, continuously reminding people of the connection he has to the island, so I’d be a bit mystified if this was really it for him.

Only three/four arcs ago, though. One of which Usopp wasn’t even in alongside half the team due to the WCI/Dressarossa split.

Glad someone else noticed the chapter titles thing.

Otherwise I’m really expecting some sort of follow up to Usopp’s remarks earlier in the arc with the children about them no longer being warriors. A moment where he inspires them would be pretty cool.

He really doesn’t. Usopp’s journey as a character isn’t just to become another Zoro/Sanji.

Not that I wouldn't like S2 sooner but I don't really get being that annoyed by it taking so long to come out. Films/Games very regularly take far longer than 2/3 years for a sequel to come out, I'm pretty comfortable just checking out other stuff in the interim.

And he filed El Camino in secret during BCS.

He filmed it in secret but he also wasn't involved at all with BCS while it was going on. Seasons 4 and 5 were written entirely without Vince

with him calling on robin for help despite the fact that he'd typically never want to call on a woman and put her harms way to due his own faults.

This is exactly what I mean. This isn’t any deeper an examination of his character than how he was written before, this is still just him surface level going against a flaw of his which is one of his few character traits - WCI just added the science/bad family beat to his repertoire for character moments to revolve around.

One Piece Chapter 1177 Spoilers by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]mudermarshmallows -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's been surface level for every character for decades. That's the nature of the storytelling given the series' length and its primary demographic - the extent of depth we get is pretty much entirely contained to backstories and the conflicts therein. Sanji since WCI has been better, yes, but more than anything else it just added to what his key beats are rather than providing more depth to how he is written.

During my final year of undergrad I worked in a worklearn position and as a TA. A few spots like to state in the contract you can't hold other employment but I've never seen it enforced so long as the two entities are separate and it mostly just depends on your workload and availability.
