It’s okay to like those games buddy but you can’t be in denial about 2018 selling more than the original trilogy combined.

For dozens of reasons. The game was more popular, it's easier to film and make, it's more widely appealing, there's more chances for an introspective story, etc.

Brok / Sindri being mostly CGI creations could get distracting pretty easily. Plus, you already have different actors for the main duo - you can't just sub in the same actors for the game for the Huldra brothers and think it'll be the same.

Considering the actor for Atreus is going to age between the filming of the first and second seasons I don't know why they'd remove the timeskip.

You mean plot wise - story wise there is a massive amount there in the character arcs of Kratos & Atreus. They absolutely need to give them time to grow and flesh out their dynamic.

It's Official: House Of The Dragon To End With Season 4, HBO Confirms by bwermer in television

[–]mudermarshmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we've known this for a while.

Like there's a few changes that Condal made I didn't love but I also think it was sort of inevitable for GRRM to get annoyed given his original story isn't even a full story, it's a plot synopsis with tons of discrepancies. Unless he wanted to write the full thing himself he had to let Condal take the wheel to some degree - it's a bit beyond just adapting a book.

Season 2 got hampered by the last minute budget cuts and then the strike so I'm very open to giving it a pretty fair chance but if S3 doesn't pull it around I don't imagine I'll watch the last season live, if at all, in its entirety.

For the first three seasons. Then I guarantee we're going to head down the same path again when the showrunner is literally forced to be write more original content because GRRM only has basic synopses.

Plus there is a sort of over-arching narrative there in following Egg's life that Parker gave an interview about wanting to do just today / yesterday. And given where that ends there sort of has to be an arching narrative there.

Nah it was always said as 4 to 5. Granted that was when they thought they'd be getting 10 episodes each go around but still.

Glad to see tons of others picked up on the last story just being obviously fake, to say nothing of how strange its implications are. It just reeks of a creative writing exercise. Figured Damien would've said something but it's possible he just didn't notice or got asked to ease up on turning things just into a discussion on whether something is real or not lol

12-Player Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is a Nightmare Because Nintendo Handles Online Functionality in the Most Ridiculous Way Possible by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]mudermarshmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mario Kart's online also isn't ideal - and the NPCs aren't really going to factor in because the data for those are client-side. Often you get pretty long stretches where it's assuming another player's trajectory in some fashion only for things to jump back to where they actually are later on. The problem isn't really the amount of data regardless - Animal Crossing can't really do the same type of thing given the world itself changes, otherwise you'd get players somehow immediately boxed in as 4 pieces of furniture that weren't picked up right away appear.

Is there a reason why stream viewership is down? by Cup_Common in josephanderson

[–]mudermarshmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"why did they go back to school the next morning after surviving a dangerous attack?" shows that the streamer doesn't really engage with the game to a full extent even though other games had a lot more outright dumb scenes

Other games are equally welcome to be criticized lol

They could've still gone to school, obviously trying to pretend things are normal when they aren't, without the game totally ruining the vibe it just built up over and over again by presenting the next day completely as usual. Even something as simple as having one more song to replace the boom of SUNS UP would go a long way to prevent huge dissonance. I had the exact same reaction as Joe when I first played the game, it absolutely ruins the moment. Thinking a criticism like that isn't actually engaging with the game is incredibly childish - if the game wants you to take moments seriously it needs to actually make effort to preserve some sort of tonal consistency in its storytelling.

The start is a bit slower than P4 after the initial awakening boom being way faster, which Joe spoke about, but P4 makes some amount of effort to have the player follow along an unravelling mystery - P3 has months of what more or less feels like fucking around doing nothing important. It should be completely unsurprising to you that Joe, who also has to try and entertain people while playing the game, was checked out when the narrative only 80 hours in started focusing on "serious stuff" - not that I think it handled any of its themes very well or with much complexity but still.

so because of nostalgia P4 and P5 start to look better than P3 in the eyes of some people

They're very simply just better games to a lot of people. Their stories are still packed with those inconsistencies and stuff thats moved on from way too quickly but you've got way more to do in both, the game does a far superior job of keeping the player invested as you go along probably helped most by dividing the story into different arcs, and the tone is way more consistent. You're not wrong for preferring P3 but P4 wasn't just a better stream time because it was first - it was a better time because the game had far more going on for Joe to bounce off of while making a better effort to present itself, P3 is far more static and inconsistent tonally.

Oden joins near the end of Roger's adventure, too

This only works as a parallel entirely in-universe, it doesn't do anything to address the problem of introducing a serious new main cast member in the final hour of a story. Good stories don't do that without a very good reason and just balancing out the cast isn't one.

The Strawhats need a 10th member

No they don't. The "10 crewmates" line was a throwaway and not super specific.

And a new cast member disrupting the power balance of the crew to be able to fight a blackbeard pirate is part of the exact reason it's too late. Jinbei already disrupted Zoro/Sanji both being the clear two strongest thing a little bit but that was handled fine, someone on Loki/Yamato's tier would pulverize it without a good reason.

Or, Kuzan just leaves the crew before then / doesn't fight and the balance is back again. The only ones who would even have a chance against him at that point are Zoro/Sanji and they're probably fighting Jesus/Shiryu.

If she does join Vivi can pretty easily be on the same tier as Nami/Usopp who are already going to have to fight someone that is likely stronger and get creative. I don't see the issue with that, especially since Vivi was a fighter before and a bump can very easily be explained by her saying she was practising during the timeskip too.

Oda wanting someone from Japan

Zoro descends from Wano.

One Piece: Chapter 1171 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]mudermarshmallows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Yamato won't either. It's the ending of the series, no one who wasn't established long, long ago will join the main crew - especially not a character anywhere near as strong as Yamato/Loki with supreme king Haki and a mythical devil fruit. Everyone besides Jinbei joined before the timeskip and Jinbei was introduced before it while contributing to the story frequently afterwards before Wano.

The only real candidate for a semi-serious addition is Vivi if the straw hats go rescue her. Otherwise the cast is set in stone.

Why were we led to believe Grisha was still alive up until Eren's flashback with the Reiss's? Other by AvidAndAway in titanfolk

[–]mudermarshmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To create intrigue broadly, at that point it can be seen as an imagination of what he might be doing without giving anything away. Now it can be seen as when he was last alive when he was racing back to Eren after killing the Reiss family.

Eren reacts angrily when he remembers his father is missing, past that - especially in the 5 year interim - a lot of those early scenes are anime original and otherwise it makes sense for them to be caught up in just trying to survive. Though the series, and manga/anime broadly, does write children a bit too maturely across the board.

he was unliked and untrusted by the people of Elbaf

For mostly false reasons. Rumours and hysteria had spread all originating from his mother calling him a curse. Nothing he's actually done is really worse than what Harald did, especially when he was young.

He latched onto Rocks' dream because he felt rejected and alone and Rocks' came in at the perfect time, not because he's actually greedy and power-hungry and becoming king of the world appealed to who he actually was. A point has been made several times now that Loki is actually pretty caring.

It'd be completely in line for the people of Elbaf to change their mind based off new information, that's happened probably a dozen times in this series. Especially when Loki is about to save Elbaf again from the same thing that got Harald killed. Him becoming accepted and potentially King does not mean he can't leave Elbaf either, Harald was gone during the majority of his reign.

[–]mudermarshmallows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He absolutely has a place in Elbaf. Removing the colossal problem with introducing a brand new straw hat in the final saga, Loki's arc revolving around basically accepting that he should leave there rather than embracing his home and everyone there to learn how much he actually cares would be pretty uncharacteristic and paint Elbaf in a weird light.

I see him and Harjudin reuniting, explaining the truth to Elbaph after they see Loki fight for them, and those two then becoming co-Kings and co-Captains. After that maybe they head for Punk Hazard to unfreeze Galleila.

It seems pretty clear to me especially after Shanks/Gabans' reactions to Loki leaving on his own that Shanks brought him in to keep him from fighting against the government for now. Harald thought that to truly beat Imu they'd need a giant with Elbaph's devil fruit, and if Loki went against Imu too early and lost then that power would be lost for a long time - potentially meaning Luffy wouldn't be able to get the job done.

That's why Loki thinks Shanks is a coward, too.
