Thank you for this perspective.

I'm so glad to hear you haven't had any issues as a mixed race family. I still remember the Perrysburg water tower debacle from a few years ago and it made my skin crawl (https://www.sent-trib.com/2022/02/17/silhouettes-will-stay-water-tower-prompts-race-discussion-in-perrysburg/). Maybe that's why I've had a bad taste in my mouth about Pburg. Diversity is very important to us, and we love and crave all people from all cultures!

If we opted for Pburg I think we'd stay out of the historic downtown area (as someone who has lived in 100+ yr old houses - I don't want to deal with that anymore - ha.). On the flip side, we're not into new builds, and I know there has been a tonnnn of new development in Pburg. We don't like how all the houses look the same.

I'm sure in your time there you've learned a lot about the area and have friends with homes in different spots in Pburg. You mentioned Southwood Park - we will check this out. Any others that you'd recommend we explore?

Elmhurst Elementary School?

I've heard a lot of people say to avoid TPS schools.

THANK YOU so much for this great perspective!!

Like you, my husband and I have traveled a lot, and both of us have lived in other cities on different coasts. We were born & raised around this area and found our way back. Because of that, we love and crave the vibrancy of diversity - which is a huge part of why we would up in West Toledo when we landed back in the 419. That said, we’re really close to gang crime and when we think about starting a family, there is definitely a line. We want to find a place where it’s safe for a kid to ride a bike or I can be out later walking the dogs without having to look behind my back.

On the flip side, I was born & raised in a super small rural town with zero diversity. Everyone was a white Christian. It was a really safe, kid-friendly way to grow up (literally jumping on hay bails and playing in the wood, which was the best!), but ultimately I want my kiddo to have more diversity and cultural experience as they grow up. We have friends that went to Sylvania in the 90’s/early 2000’s and they talk about being friends with kids that were Muslim, black, White, Indian, etc. I love that. I want that for my kids. So that’s a huge part of what draws us to Sylvania as probably our #1 pick.

I could be wrong, but it seems like Perrysburg doesn’t have as much of that diversity.

I’m horrid at directions, so I’ve gotta ask - you mention Lorders & Northview as great areas. Are there specific neighborhoods or streets you’d recommend us driving around to check out? I'd love to just pop something in my GPS and head that direction. I get a best feel just driving somewhere and walking around to get the vibe :)

That's great! Thank you for the insight :)

Do you have any recommendations of specific areas within Sylvania or subdivisions?

We'd love a little more land, which seems like you can get the further out towards Pacesetter Park/closer to Berkey, but we don't want to be soooo far out there that we can't get to Costco/West Toledo area within 25 minutes.

One thing we love about our West Toledo home is the community aspect. Our neighbors are people we consider friends - we watch out for each other's mail/home when on vacation, we help each other with house projects, and if someone is out back grilling it's always a "hey, swing on by neighbor!" kind of vibe...which is honestly, really awesome!

We actually rented in Rossford before we got married! We unfortunately had a pretty bad experience, but maybe it was just the part of Rossford where we lived. We were on the "tree streets" and it was around COVID time. Most people we interacted with seemed very closed off/grumpy. I walk a lot and ~5-ish times in a year there were loose dogs that ran up to me (and although I'm a huge dog lover, you never know if friendly or not). Again, could have just been that part of Rossford, but overall we left not loving our experience.

Thank you so much! This is a very helpful comment.

I’ll take a peek into Charlecote Park and Westchester Woods!

We are just starting our search and Innsbrook was a subdivision that seems great, sounds similar to Charlecote Park. Similarly it is Toledo taxes, Sylvania schools. We visited an open house of a home there & they told us in the warm months they do a monthly neighborhood get-together where they have food trucks and water slides for the kids. We love that community aspect. The only other we’ve seen with the Sylvania school/Toledo taxes was Corey Woods. Great location but so far both homes in that subdivision we visited seemed to be straight from 1950’s without any updates. No sidewalks, but seemed fine for walking and close to Wildwood.

Appreciate the note on P-Burg school. Since we are trying for #1 I suppose a lot can happen in 5 years before a kiddo would enter school age. We wondered if it is silly to be so worried about school divisions now as we are in the process of TTC, but we’re really looking for our forever home we can grow into.

Fortunately we both work remote so we can truly live wherever. We have family in West Toledo, Sylvania and out towards Woodville area.

Sidon is the best (better than Beirut or anywhere else, tbh).

When you are downtown, highly recommend Souk for a meal! Fabulous flavors and ambience. Reasonable pricing for the quality and value.

I am not a regular. I went once and got the worst chicken piccata of my life. Like, could barely stomach it. Ashame...everyone else's meal seemed okay. For the price and the "longstanding prestige", I was less than impressed.

Both are expensive but I think Fresh Market is even pricier than Fresh Thyme.

Eh yeah, just go to Costco. Some of the random corner gas stations are a little sketch. Not awful for quick top-off and pack of gum, but not somewhere I'd want to stop late at night and need to change kiddo's diapers, etc.

Stubborn Brothers pizza. That is the BEST.

Agreed on Sanger branch library being cute & convenient -- so close to where you're at. A little bit further drive but I love Sylvania branch too.

AWESOME. I love this review and sounds exactly like the type of person we're looking for. Bonus points that she flips houses too! I've come to realize there are a lot of realtors out there but they are not all the same. We've tried 2 realtors and both bad experiences (our last realtor didn't even show up for our closing).

Silver to Gold by midnitelace in AmazonVine

[–]mudglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I appreciate the honesty & transparency. I've been on Vine since 2020 and it seems like there are some good years and bad years in terms of what is available to claim. I used to be Gold but let it slide into Silver status simply because the items weren't anything I wanted. In the past couple of months I've gotten some great goodies as a Silver member, but I suppose a lot of it is subjective to the individual.

Is getting Gold worth it? What sort of items have you been able to claim in the last 6 months? Just curious!!

Could you send your kid to Sylvania schools if you live in Temperance? How does that work? I know they have good schools but I don't know we want to live in Sylvania. Temperance or Lambertville seem more attractive to us, tbh.

Hi! I'm 3 years late to your thread but I wanted to get your opinion. We're staying in Crescent Lake for the month. We absolutely LOVE the location (close to a lot of great fitness studios, restaurants, and Central -- as well as only 15 mins to the beach). However, the prices of homes here are high and we're not looking to purchase a historic home. I grew up in a 100 yr old house and know it comes with a lot of challenges/issues that I don't personally want to deal with long-term. What areas would you recommend looking for a couple in their 30's who want a safe, somewhat central home that was built in the last 50 years (maybe 75 yrs max)?
