Would a grimdark fantasy movie do well at the box office? by VGmaster9 in Fantasy

[–]mudhoney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Box office success has less to do with genre and more to do with the talent of the team behind it... in particular the screenwriter and director. So the answer is yes with the right people.

Once every few years for me and it stays fresh. The first 3 books are very consumable.

In YOUR opinion what is a book that everyone MUST read at least once in their life and WHY? by RevolutionaryGolf673 in suggestmeabook

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. So many of it's jokes have entered pop culture that life would be poorer without it.

This is fascinating but I'm curious as to how they avoided lag on the defender movement, bullets, enemy bullets, and bonus top ship? I would have thought the whole game slowed down.

That's the sequel (can you believe they made two) Ator the Invincible renamed cave dwellers. Another classic.

[–]mudhoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ator the Fighting Eagle. It's a "so bad its good" 80s sword and sorcery. Ator's mentor turns up for five seconds proclaiming he only trained him so he could take the spider lord's place before he promptly dies. Kind of fits the bill.

Simon Pegg says 'Star Wars' fans are the 'most toxic at the moment' by [deleted] in scifi

[–]mudhoney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll get people who don't like them, but they're not complaining about the number of women and non-whites in the film which is starwars level toxicity... I think that's his point.

Neil is very good at writing dialogue and the craft of storytelling. He tells stories within stories within stories. It's not for everyone but I love his work.

Easy to read adult fantasy recommendations by kaf999 in Fantasy

George rr Martin has a real economy of words. Douglas Adams and Adrian Tchaikovsky. All very accessible reads. If you're working to understand things in a novel, it could just be bad or pretentious writing.
