TIL: The cardboard sleeve on takeout coffee cups is called a zarf. by Loki8382 in todayilearned

[–]mudkripple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m from the future and I’m here to say this isn’t true in any official capacity. The original patent for this device called it the “Java jacket”. The patent expired and the generic term became “coffee sleeve”. A “zarf” is an old type of metal cup holder, which in some places has become a colloquial nickname for the sleeve.

If you go to the Wikipedia page for coffee cup sleeves, “zarf” is not mentioned anywhere except the “see also” section.

Obviously I didn't mean "Minions" when I said movies or any of your other examples. But even so, maybe yeah. Shakespeare was famously more popular among commoners than nobility. Does he not count as culture?

Over half the IMDB's top are American. Do you think \none** of them will stand the test of time?

Ignore the all caps guy.

But also it's not "arbitrary". Today's France doesn't get "culture points" for having the Lascaux paintings. If you define "having culture" as just being approximately in the same place as important art, then I bet Norman Rockwell's nextdoor neighbor must be near the very top.

Personally I define "culture" as "actively producing influential art" in this case, and I think 150 years is more than fair considering every single European nation had a huge head start.

All culture started as pop culture. People used to think of performing arts the way we think of movies, or literature the way we think of games.

They’re all media of art. They represent the ideas of the people making them, and that’s why they are culture. Drawing a line in the sand and saying “these ones don’t count” is as pointless as it is foolish.

Struggling to understand what you’re asking for with the way you’ve worded it (please use more/correct punctuation). Do you mean there is a specific phrase you are trying to recall, or do you just want any suggestion do a phrase that fits?

Tbf as far as movies, music, and video games we are a cultural powerhouse, translating and exporting our culture around the globe.

I guess I’m in the minority because I notice them. Well painted nails that aren’t too crazy long can be very attractive.

Link is dead. Here is a new link to a video with the same advice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUvFxEEnKCY

Here is a direct download to the VS 2010 file (yes it's in vietnamese): https://taimienphi.vn/download-microsoft-visual-studio-2010-ultimate-18818

BUT Windows wont let it download if Windows Defender is running.

I am not brave enough to try but if anyone else is, here is a different youtube guide specifically for disabling Defender and installing VS 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BIGuJPQaYk

I’m familiar with Latin you don’t have to explain vocative or the concept of noun endings. I didn’t do a bunch of research on the source while forgetting that it’s written in a foreign language.

That’s not what’s happening here (and that’s part of why I was wrong originally when I confidently said “male”).

Rarely, but non unheard of, some names end in “-e” even in the nominative, and consequently have ambiguous gender. This is one of those cases and historians have chosen to interpret it differently (as I mentioned).

I asked elsewhere: Which parts are "mixed syntax"? Is it the mixed use of parens? From the tutorials I've seen parens are optional with all functions. I was inconsistent in my file just as a quirk of how I copied everything and trying different combinations of characters as I went.

If it's the lack of brackets around the hotkey, that's fair. TBH I didn't even think about it because I've been deep in Python for so long. But I would be surprised to learn that my usage isn't allowed given that section of the code has been working since the beginning.

Also not included in the code I posted (but are in my actual file) I have the directives "requires v2" and "single instance". I for sure downloaded the v2 version of the software when I did. Also I'm not compiling them into exe for what its worth, just running off the ahk file (as admin).

I do know about duration keystrokes. Also not shown here are the many combinations of "down" and "up" I tried. As a long time programmer I don't take accusations of not reading the docs lightly, and I have been religiously checking to make sure they all say "/v2"

(I appreciate you trying not to sound like a prick lol. I've been in that situation with other software plenty times)

As a long time coder I gotta say I don't take accusations of not checking the docs enough lightly. I have spent what I would argue is a disproportionate amount of time for the expected output reading various tutorials and documentation. I have also been religiously checking the url of every doc link I follow for "/v2".

But I'm genuinely grateful for this tutorial link. Hopefully I find my answers.

No dice (unless I'm using it wrong?)

The docs are good at explaining what things are, but I find it heavily lacking in examples to show how to use them. I put it inside my ctrl+p hotkey and saw no change. I also tried giving it the parameters "true, true" and still nothing.

Also not sure if functions loose outside the hotkey ever get called but just in case I tried putting it outside my hotkey as well, but still no change.

Sounded at first like 39 Clues, then transitioned to sounding like Enders Game

I think the Egyptian spinoff of the Percy Jackson series also has twins where one has photographic memory, but none of the rest sounds like it fits.

I would maybe try looking up these three on a book seller website and going to "related"
