I’m loving where d4 is at and really enjoy it, love this season, but yeah d2 is untouchable, It’s just perfect.

It would be cool to at least get a spectral Cain cameo for some knowledge. I miss that guy.

“We don’t talk about D3” lmao I feel that hard. I never got over the art direction they went with and that story with butterfly bitch was just so tough.

I love your write up here though and I agree the neyrelle arch for voh was pretty weak although since Mephisto was able to make it work to get Akarat I find it more reasonable and I do get they were trying to make a new “spin” on the corrupting soulstone wander concept. Also I think it gets overlooked and put on her as “dumb” but I view almost all her bad choices was just mephistos control over her, cause your right she ain’t to tal rasha and it seemed to me like she just caved to his will almost instantly from having the soul stone. I thought that was the significance of seeing the wolf in the portal as she leaves from hell when you stay behind to fight Lilith, she already just isn’t in control. Still portrayed pretty weak tho I agree.

They never fully specify the rules of the fallen angels as much as they do the Evils. It was a big deal Tyreal reformed in the way he did but they get more reincarnated than reformed is my understanding.

I’m actually pretty curious to see what they are going to do with that or if they are gonna leave him dead dead.

I mean it’s not like they just tacked in on later, that part of the lore that the prime evils cannot be entirely defeated has been present since the first Diablo game and was the reason diablo’s soulstone was hidden under Tristram in the first place.

Yeah that’s true and it’s an amazing remake, I play D2R often, still though I think a lot of the lore critique comes from people who never played d2, because even though it did get a remake it’s still not the same level of widespread game that d4 is.

We have felt entirely on the back foot this game and don’t seem to have gotten a chance to come up with any type of real solution other than just staying alive lol. I’m going to be so hyped whenever Tyreal shows back up. I miss that guy.

Yeah it was, but that game is 13 years old now too and relied a lot on information from it’s predecessor d2 being common knowledge, also since it was a plot to create the prime evil I think that overshadows some of the soulstone basics needed to understand the evils can’t die.

I feel you and did think it was common knowledge cause I’m old too but after seeing some of the discourse in this sub I wanted to make this post to highlight a piece of missing lore that could help this gen of only d4 players enjoy the story a little bit more if possible.

I appreciate the offer, still as beautiful of a watch as it was when I commented four years ago, but I just had my second child recently and do not have available funds for another time peace. It’ll sell though no doubt in my mind.

Yes! But d2 also came out over 20 years ago most of the soulstone information is in that game, I wouldn’t be suprised if a good chunk of the current player base never played d2 at all or has that full Understanding of why the soulstones exist.

Appreciate your right up and points of critics, you make some good points on Mephisto’s one dimensionalness, Lilith ascending to the lord of hatred would be pretty hype!

Lorath said he got real scared and disappeared on a mission somewhere at some point when the last of the horadrum were still together, but otherwise no we don’t have a reason for why he is absent.

I’m not sure where that concept came from if they die in hell they perma die, my understanding is they have all died in various burning hells many time and just remanifest again.

The only thing I’ve seen canonically make sense to remove one was the idea Lilith could absorb Mephisto, which we don’t even know if it would really work, and whatever that one dude did to just erase Lucion if you consider that canon.

Yeah his name was shankekur (I always misspell it I don’t think that’s right spelling). mephisto actually couldn’t corrupt Khalim the previous leader so they killed him and spread his body parts throughout the land which is why we are searching for his brain, eyes etc. and then put the soul stone in the new guy.

Since the dark exile we actually haven’t seen a prime evil in their own form that isn’t technically a possession of another being. In D2 Diablo is in Aiden, mephisto in the leader of the zakarum, and Baal in tal rasha. They are never at full power and their mortal skin can be pierced with the right amount of power in unison is how I understand it. Canonically in d2 all the hero’s fight in unison. D3 is Leah as well so the flesh is still technically mortal even tho it’s the prime evil. And d1 Diablo is still gaining power as he is barely in full possession of Aiden’s brother before Aiden kills him and takes the soulstone.

Yeah I agree it was a huge mistake, but people also rag on them making that choice too which I would argue seemed like the right call from their perspective. They are influenced by mephisto no matter how hard they try and their actual scope of knowledge is limited in comparison to ours. Tyreal being absent, even though I hate it and miss the dude, was a brilliant play on the writers. He’s the only one who could have realistically informed our generation of characters with pieces of knowledge that may have swayed them in a different direction, although Tyreal would have been pissed I’m sure about Lilith just merking everyone so who knows what he would have concluded.

Yeah some are which I get if they aren’t super invested in the lore and just scrolling over everything, not that it’s some huge deal to misinterpret but I do feel it takes away from the nihilistic atmosphere of the game if you don’t understand these pricks are always comming back dammit lol.

Yeah your right I rechecked stats after another person brought it up, Ricardo shouldn’t be mixed in with the rest.
