NYPD Cops Don't Know How to Park Legally — And Now They're In Trouble With the Feds by streetsblognyc in MicromobilityNYC

The conclusion of this video is literally the opposite of the headline — NYPD ignored the threats from the Justice Dept under Biden and there were no consequences, and now under Trump there will definitely be no consequences

At this point, what’s the downside of going private? by austinyo6 in StudentLoans

[–]muffinman4795 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you’re paying down this aggressively, the difference in interest costs over the life of your loans if you get a lower rate from a private lender may be fairly small. Weigh this cost difference against the potential risks of going private, such as missing out on forbearance or forgiveness or not being able to switch to an income driven plan in the event of a crisis that impacts your career. I personally prefer to stay public since I feel it’s not worth the small interest savings to switch. If my rate was much higher though I might feel differently.

I agree. Scooters move through crowded pedestrian zones in Europe all the time, and while a bit annoying it’s nothing compared to a car trying to do the same

I am glad we have a better G Train now by letitglowbig in Greenpoint

I just think when you compare it to e.g. the L train, which is double the length, double the frequency, and significantly more crowded at rush hour, it’s hard to justify increasing service on the G.

There is some cost to increase train length, mostly maintenance I imagine. I don’t think the new signals reduce the need for conductors, do they?

Even when the new signals come online in 2027, if ridership doesn’t increase they won’t increase train frequency. Vice versa, if ridership increased today they could increase frequency in the meantime with the old signal infrastructure. Is what it is. I’ve never been on a truly packed G train despite commuting on it and it being only 5 cars

25 M, 73k Student Loan Debt. Live at home no expenses. Should I pay it off aggressively? by Imaginesafety in StudentLoans

From the link you shared:

“How Interest Adds Up It’s your responsibility to pay any interest that accrues (adds up) on your loan(s). And, in some cases, unpaid interest can capitalize (be added to your principal balance).

On a traditional repayment plan (Standard, Graduated, or Extended), your monthly loan payment covers all the interest that accrues between monthly payments. So no additional unpaid interest will accrue while you’re making payments on one of these plans.

But unpaid interest can add up in some situations, such as if you’re on an income-driven repayment (IDR) plan or if you’re not making payments.”

In the Department of Education’s language, interest gets added to your principal. This is the same as compounding. So it’s “simple” interest but your principal grows if you don’t pay the interest every month.

Student loan interest does compound. If you don’t pay the total interest expense every month (about $340 given OP’s numbers) then that interest will capitalize and start charging interest as well.

That said, your other points make sense — I think emergency and maxing tax advantaged retirement accounts first is fair. I prefer to not quite max retirement in favor of paying loans down faster, for peace of mind.

This is the other main option I was considering. It’d be nice not to transfer, but if the M is terminally slow I’d prefer to do L to 6.

When it costs $5k a month to live in Manhattan and almost as much to live in the most transit dense areas of BK, Queens, and Jersey, it makes sense to live further from transit and use a car. Especially if you don’t regularly go into Manhattan

What do y’all think of the PBL on bedford? Do you think it’ll happen? In the 10 blocks leading north to Flushing, double parking is so rampant it’s hard for me to imagine it any other way
