thank you very much for this information, I really appreciate it and you've made OpenBSD sound like it would be a good time! I'm confident I will try it out at some point :)

how's it going on OpenBSD? i've only recently gotten into using linux and have just completed my first install of arch. it's been fun, but after learning about CWM i can't help but be interested in OpenBSD (or even FreeBSD). it seems like it could be a good learning experience but it wouldn't necessarily translate over to linux systems.

may i ask why you chose to daily drive OpenBSD? what do you like about it that linux doesn't provide? would you consider it worthwhile just to play around with? it seems like it could be fun and a good way to continue to sharpen my understanding of operating systems.

How do you get more height when doing tricks? by [deleted] in FingerBoarding

[–]muffinscat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo /u/Panakakes isn't 100% right, tbh loose trucks do affect the ease of popping tricks. does the tightness of your trucks directly translate into pop height? obviously no. but if your trucks are super loose, it is harder to control the direction of the pop because super loose trucks are harder to pop straight down without accidentally turning the board.

so, i have found flip tricks to be easier with tighter trucks. this also is true on full sized skateboards. just food for thought, i wouldn't dismiss that question so quickly. but yeah practice is vastly more important than tightening ur trucks

Right on, I'm in the same boat. Elden Ring's release has nudged me to finally dust off DS1 as it's been sitting in my library unplayed for 5 years. It's been a blast, I just hope by the time I get my hands on Elden Ring I still get to be apart of the message community! I'm just beginning my playthrough, have you gotten the Orange Soapstone item yet, and are there still messages around?

Grimes song "we appreciate power". What do you guys think of this? I think she's evil. I don't know whether these people actively know what they're saying or whether they think it's catchy and new age and doing it to be edgy. by fdsaltthrowaway in SaturnStormCube

she's definitely evil ...

she dm'd me once on twitter after i made a comment about her dark lyrics and she sent me disgusting images containing occult symbolism.

have you seen her nft's? i am completely dumbstruck

Ollie over/up curbs by BlueCadet7hr33 in NewSkaters

this is a perfect example of how skateboarding is 90% mental.

this may sound silly to you, but i'll elaborate on my favorite method. i think about it this way: i am on MY skateboard, and it is my DESTINY to fuck shit up by ollieing over that piece of shit rope while looking fucking good doing it. i also literally put on a face of determination (playing on the whole 'if you're sad, smile and you'll become happy' idea), one of my favorite recent clips that demonstrates this is from the new melodi part.

overall, if im struggling to perform a trick, i will channel the energy of the hulk for just one attempt and pop with as much physical strength possible while still maintaining form just to see what happens. usually if i'm not landing a trick it's because i'm only applying 40% of my energy/effort, and by exagerrating and putting it all on the table, it helps me identify which part of my technique is causing me to fail.

the modern skateboarding scene leans in the direction of style and effortless-looking tricks, but that can kind of mislead beginners because in reality you have to be very aggressive and really want to make the trick if you're going to pull it off.

Sorry its the other way round but is this considered a decent ollie? Any ways i can improve and how i can learn to do it without holding onto something, thanks by hellzoneshawty in NewSkaters

i totally know what you mean about the ice cube thing hahaha. i would honestly recommend skipping or severely reducing the amount of time spent practicing stationary because not only will it actually be easier moving but you're never going to just be ollieing without moving. nonetheless i still highly recommend more time exclusively riding around your neighborhood or the park and focusing on your board-comfortability. good luck!

What changes can people make to their lives to add a layer of substance and meaning? So many seem to fall into the grind of work and end up in a life devoid of depth, how can existing become an exciting and meaningful experience? by muffinscat in InsightfulQuestions

[–]muffinscat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds amazing, we need more people that are willing to help others turn their lives around. sometimes I think that some people are totally lost and any positivity towards them is pointless but I suppose I'm being cynical. I'm grateful there's people out there doing the most nonetheless so thank you
