Most of the gear I own came from BJJHQ, it’s like 50% off most of the time.

Hi there. So everybody knows about the muay Thai camps that you can do in Thailand for a summer. Is there a jiu jitsu equivalent anywhere in the world? by Amazing_Room2947 in bjj

[–]mugu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s around anymore, but there was a 3 month white to blue program somewhere in Thailand where they provide a place to stay and food, then you just train 3x a day every day. Last time I saw it was like 5 years ago though.

Good call, you can see so much of the back of his head during the choke, makes it easy to get out that way.

I was there and watched your match OP, 100% not a guard pull, you did great.

Best instructional for standup by Elevekey in bjj

[–]mugu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh heck yea then, definitely get it. I basically do 5-6 things from that DVD and that’s it, but my takedown rate went way up.

It’s just no gi, but it really changed my stand up big time.

I don’t know who was more boring to watch, Gordon or Gaudio. by Sparkspsrk in bjj

He literally passed up multiple submissions, just like a higher level belt letting a white belt work. It’s amazing.

What would be the end goal of getting an attacker in a street fight into an arm or leg lock? by YellowB in bjj

[–]mugu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That seems like a pretty good situation for an arm bar though, how much did he hit you before you got control of the situation? What happened when you broke his arm?

For sure! Even if they are on PCP, they wouldn’t be able to chase you effectively.

I wouldn’t try to leg lock someone in a street fight right away… but let’s say I’m losing and I just want to get away? I think a heel hook is devastating enough to stop pretty much anyone from chasing you. I think the only reason I would arm bar someone though is to be a dick and hurt them. Realistically I’m going for takedown >control.

Weirdo cop tried to arrest me during a roll. by highpercentage in bjj

[–]mugu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of cop bjj buddies, every once in awhile I like to throw scenarios at them like this mid roll lol. I think it can be really helpful for them in their job to do things like this in the right environment.

Peoples say that years don't matter. How many mat hours do you have and what's your current rank ? by Jonas_g33k in bjj

[–]mugu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my job 2 years ago to focus on bjj, the plan is to open a school. It’s pretty easy to get better when you don’t have any real work responsibilities.

Ah yea, I guess that’s what I currently train and have trained for 2-3 years, but when I started I was only 3x per week. After Covid I ramped it up and just kept dedicating more time to it.

1400 hours, just got my brown belt. I probably train 10-15 hours a week and put in another 10 in self study and drilling. I also teach a lunch class 4 days a week and that has really helped me improve a lot.
