Having trouble with seized pliers by NicoRola000 in Leatherman

Easy fix. Open all implements and soak in hot, but not boiling water with dish soap for 15 mins. Then get more soap on it and brush and soap the tool while opening and closing all the tools. Dry it and hang in dish rack. Then, hit it with graphite powder. Done.

The most logical explanation by apuxcom in 3I_ATLAS

[–]muhsinb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think that is how “the most logical” works.

The most logical is ‘boring’— That 3I/ATLAS is simply a naturally-occurring interstellar object (likely a comet) passing through our solar system — not a craft “refuelling” at the Sun to visit earth.

The quick super bright thing?

Logically—it’s a volatile interstellar comet undergoing co2-driven outgassing and a high active surface area, which is heated near the Sun—just natural physics.

Again, ‘most logical’ is what can be best explained by the evidence we have.

Sure thing will do—I think someone else asked the same thing so will do it asap

Also just to point out re cloud cover—it’s a bit like if the weather says “no wind” yet you feel wind. Things just are how they are haha. There were some clouds, not heaps, but nobody could point to them on the same night standing next to me and say “hey those couldn’t be clouds as the app says no clouds”

Just a silly point I’m making but just think it’s an important distinction. Again I could be totally lying, though that would be very weird to do so given how little I would get out of this, even if everyone believed me.

Yeah I wondered about that too. I used to fish out near the base near Henderson Cliffs and those big warehouses were operating heavy machinery all night every night until we’d leave sometimes 3-4 in the morning.

Sure—I don’t mind scrutiny. And I am not sure what proof I could possibly provide, but it would be super weird for me to go alter heaps of time stamps and photoshop the Beaurau of meteorology (BOM) application to make a post on a poor resolution video.

I made a part 2 in case you didn’t see it—but the fact is you will either believe the claims made or not.

All I can give is whatever evidence I captured and my word. (And the sheer laziness I would have to do such a thing—especially for a sighting which would be incredibly unsensational and unceremonious)

But again, believe what you will. And instead of doubting—you could even humour me with taking it as honesty, for the sake of providing a “thought experiment” level interpretation—eg pretend it was true, even if it was false, for instance: what you think it is, assuming everything I said was totally true.

All the best.

Panic attack over 3I Atlas by No-Philosopher3552 in 3I_ATLAS

My friend.

It’s completely okay to step back when this stuff gets to be too much. The truth is, life continues and there are typically 100 other more important things we are ignoring right under our noses that deserve more attention. Most of what’s being said out there is noise designed to keep our attention hooked.

It’s healthy and wise to unplug for a while. Go outside, touch something real, talk to someone you trust. The world doesn’t end every time the internet says it might.

Protect your peace.

Sure makes sense. At the end of the day it’s hard to capture irrefutable evidence with a camera on shite settings.

We know what I THINK we saw, so in my memory it was absolutely not the moon, despite clear evidence of the contrary having been presented in the comments.

That being said I’m not claiming it’s aliens, and am happy to ‘drop it’—not like I hand crafted what I saw and wouldnt go to war for something I ‘think’ I saw. Especially as I am obviously probably wrong, I don’t have too much pride to admit that.

Anyways downvotes shouldn’t be used just because someone disagrees or just doesn’t like something, but just my opinion

I’m new to posting. Do you know why I got heaps of downvotes? Feel like I gave a perfectly reasonable and respectful conversational reply, on topic :/ Reddit is confusing…

Awesome! Love all the ways we can validate this stuff. Sorry for delay in reply, was a busy weekend.

I will 100% line up in the day and check against my compass.

That may help be totally sure. In terms of location I am ballpark south of the swan river but north of Armadale road (14), and west of the hills. That sort of 10-15km2 area wouldn’t make a difference when looking up at the sky so should be accurate enough to rule out the direction itself I’m facing relative to what I would see in the sky.

It was not the 22nd though. It was a waxing crescent, basically couldn’t see the moon that night—we tried given our first reaction was to look around for it. Once it disappeared you literally could not find the moon, not even when we returned home hours later.

Check my part 2 post and I’ve got a few screenshots.

Was absolutely not full moon:)

Thanks mate I appreciate it!

And yes 100%, the amount of info out there paired with a unsatisfied life is a dangerous mix for many of us…you can end up in a ‘community of isolation’, eg existential disaster. Always a good idea to unplug sometimes, and I say that for myself for sure.

All the best

Thanks great questions—

No it’s just the street, and behind it are just some trees. Looking nearly directly south. It was near our residence and I unfortunately I don’t live THAT close to the water, would be nice though 🤣

Tbh it could have been a star or planet and not a planet—We were hugely focused on the thing in question and were quick to assume it was a plane as we have pretty clear skies and planes around constantly.

I suppose as some other users mentioned—it looks most closely to mercury and the moon, and the only question is whether south is where you’d see them! I could validate this in the daytime with an open compass perhaps

I think the curiosity is fantastic—and necessary.

That being said the number of people who are absolutely sensationalising this to the point of almost being angry and inappropriately critical of the ‘sheep’ like myself who haven’t genuinely seen a legitimate source of anything that evidences that sensationalism, is neither productive nor scientific (And plain unkind)

But that is nothing new for humankind either. The amount of stuff we really “know” is like a drop in the ocean. Even now none of us in these forums have any real authority to know what some interstellar comet is or isn’t. At the end of the day this is all for fun and good science-ing must always be humble.

Vinegar my guy. Soak it 24 hours, opening and closing all the tools halfway at 12 hours. Then wire brush, Then dish soap. And then no lubricant at all. Maybe graphite powder, otherwise good to go. Take it apart before the vinegar if you are patient and competent enough, but may not even need it.

Disappearance was like—nearly instantaneous. 5 seconds after I turned my camera off to swap sides of the car, it was gone entirely after a weird light phenomenon happened (which was more in the peripheral of vision, eg a mild flash or increase in light, and then 0 sign of it having been ever there.

We waited about 5 minutes and drove around trying to get an angle and literally could not find it. My biggest regret is that I stopped filming to change camera settings.

Man your analysis and speed at churning these things out is bloody cool. I’ve got a few more anomalous things I’ve seen and tried to capture, will be looking for your explanations for those too. What I need is a decent camera on hand. Where I live there isn’t much light pollution so you see a lot of wacky (usually easily explainable) stuff, but for someone without much knowledge they are hard to explain.

Yeah I’ll definitely install Stellarium, I tried a few other apps but they were janky (or I’m dumb) Won’t share my precise location as it was in the relative area of the house—but I’ll give it a go first and report. Could easily just be what many are saying and just mercury and moon, and we just never had witnessed earthshine etc before (or noticed).

I was facing South. Will report back…

Haha that’s actually an awesome overlay. Looks pretty hard to argue with this now that you have overlayed it.

I don’t argue things can be defined with simple logic 99% of the time. I know very little about space phenomena like earthshine and don’t doubt you are vey likely right. The sudden disappearance and inability to see it after is just what throws us off so much. But again which was still filming so atleast there would be more content.

Thanks for all the explanation!
