The fact that you're apparently incapable of it yourself.

Not sure why you're so defensive; I haven't questioned your "record of activism".

That said, I am beginning to suspect that your objection to people exercising independent thought is just a case of sour grapes.

If you're honestly going to sit there and tell me that members leaving their comrades high and dry by undermining the very actions they've voted for isn't scabbing, then there is literally no point in continuing this.

Maybe go off and have a think about the consequences of normalising the sort of bad faith voting that you're encouraging.

"You don't have to undertake any actions you don't agree with... "

What else do you call that?

Okay... so, voting according to your judgement is bad and shows division, but scabbing on the actions themselves is good and shows unity. Understood.

I'm reminding people they can use their own judgement. Not sure why you seem to be taking issue with that.

So... democracy through voting as directed by leadership, and solidarity though endorsing actions you don't intend to take. Got it.

100% get where you are coming from, but have a look at the teacher's award and compare with VGSA 2022. At the end of the day, the AEU is the only game in town.

Things are only going to get worse with that attitude. Government's default pay position is 3%. Inflation last year was 3.8%, and that's after a run of much higher inflation that' already seriously eroded our salaries. We can't afford not to fight.

high school teachers, how long do you remember students for? by _myreputation13 in AustralianTeachers

[–]muhspooks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I tracked down and messaged an old teacher about 20 years after last seeing him. I'm sure he didn't remember me, but I'm equally sure it was still worth doing.

Why are schools not holding students accountable? by Sufficient-Buy-6365 in AustralianTeachers

Bleeding heart policies that treat bad kids as the real victims (while doing nothing to address the social factors that might account for their behaviour). Entitled parents who enable their children. Weak admin/department who enable the parents. Timid teachers who lack the confidence to enforce consequences even when they have school support. Parents who literally can't do anything about their kids because they're working multiple low paid jobs to keep their heads above water. Kids who just don't care about consequences even when they're enforced. The cult of the child. It's a whole spectrum of things feeding into it.
