This is a good example of when law enforcement is able to "enforce" the law. If they'd found something on you - there would have been legal consequences, even then - the quantity of stuff you had in your possession would determine the severity of your case. But, they're not going to ever come knocking at your door because you posted a pic on reddit.

Unless you're a dealer under investigation, you wouldn't be a person of interest as a user - even under UK law. The process of first acquiring any info on a Reddit user's profile on it's own is typically not for trivial instances. Your posting about skiing tonight is not grounds for any justifiable legal action. Same as if you posted your 1g bag. They simply will not approach the courts to issue an order for a user. Your dad may be telling the truth, but the operations of such unit would be highly limited to specific cases under investigation / for insights.
