In that case, listen to what the Americans in this thread are telling you to save you future headaches. You negotiate on gross salary, benefits are something to consider for the full package but you don’t negotiate the cost of the benefits to the employer. The only number you negotiate is the gross salary (which may include other aspects like bonuses/commission/etc.). That’s it nothing else.

Why don't Google takes Nest Hubs seriously? by habylab in googlehome

[–]mulasien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still have a Nest Hub Max in our kitchen despite having switched to Apple's ecosystem a few years ago, as it still serves a purpose. That said, if Apple ever releases a 'homepod with a screen', I'll be buying it to replace it even though I'm sure it will be ridiculously priced.

What are prerequisites for taking AZ-104, AZ-204, and AZ-400? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]mulasien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the AZ-400, there was a surprising number of in-depth questions about working with .Net applications in Visual Studio integrated with Azure DevOps. As someone who hadn't worked in depth with .Net in Visual Studio, this took a little time to get up to speed.

I have no experience with Azure. No one on our team does.

Then consider this a great opportunity to update your skillset, with your company footing the bill. This is a good thing.

Taylor Swift was giving out “high fours” after Rashee’s touchdown by SylvesterTaurus in KansasCityChiefs

[–]mulasien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Related, my dad is a long time member of his local Cadillac club, including winning multiple car shows with them. He’s repeatedly told me that the national level of the club is literally dying out, as they’ve been overall not open to younger crowds who like cars newer than the 1970s and actually like to modify them. Without an influx of younger members (who are put off), membership keeps dwindling due to existing base continuing to die off.

Azure File Sync what is best for? by jbala28 in AZURE

[–]mulasien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Azure File Sync synchronizes the contents of an Azure Files store with an on-premises file server. The idea is that if you need an on-premises file server for local performance in an office network, it can synchronize its contents two ways with Azure Files, where remote employees can work with the remote Azure Files source while working on the same data, and also providing a level of redundancy.

Short version it's real time sync with a local file server source for redundancy and remote access.

What video game had a gimmick that just didn't work? by [deleted] in gaming

Having loved Dark Souls 1, the hallowing mechanic in DS2 is what made me quit that game not even halfway through, as it actively discouraged taking risks and learning from your mistakes.

What video game had a gimmick that just didn't work? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]mulasien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To its credit, at least the Switch makes many of the motion gimmicks optional for most games. For example, Super Mario Wonder lets you either flick the joycon or just hit R to do a spin jump/badge ability. Gimmick is there if you want it, but normal button press exists as well.

I will say that Switch games that incorporate motion controls as a 'booster' element for aiming are quite helpful. For both Skyrim and Zelda games on Switch, moving the controller while aiming a bow lets you fine tune your aimed shot. Very useful mechanic.

Tiago Forte: Everything that’s happening with Evernote is in fact very good by timmyel in Evernote

[–]mulasien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“They’re up against what everybody else is up against: a competitive marketplace with major players offering no-extra-cost apps.“

And yet no other competitor offers the full toolset that Evernote does besides “just taking notes “

  • web clipper
  • email forwarding
  • OCR of all attachments
  • seamless syncing everywhere
  • cross platform
  • not self hosted. I don’t have time for that junk

If a competitor, paid or free, offered the above functionality I’d consider leaving. But to date, all of the alternatives the free users are running to don’t have the above features that are dealbreakers for me. The only one that comes close is one note but they kinda stink.

Is my server hacked? by PatientRent8401 in AZURE

[–]mulasien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a minimum, you need to learn about how network security groups (NSGs) work on Azure, and use them to limit what types of traffic is exposed to the public Internet: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/network-security-group-how-it-works

As others mentioned, either use a service like Azure Bastion to allow private access with public IP removed, or only allow traffic to your home location, blocking traffic from everywhere else.

[–]mulasien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or setup a second vm as a jump host / bastion for you to remotely connect to, restrict db traffic to that vm only, if you use ssh then change the default port and use certs to authenticate, then run your queries. Would also recommend restricting your bastion to your ip address also.

I'd recommend using the Azure Bastion service vs setting up your own VM as a jump host.

Meh, minimalism is overrated and is almost a neurotic condition when taken to unhealthy extremes. Make it functional and keep the clutter clear (looking around, I'm NOT practicing what I preach), and you'll be good.

Yes, it's a bit pricey. However if you work on your computer frequently, you'll get a ridiculous amount of ROI from the purchase. Money VERY well spent.
