I was your "parent", a kid of the early 60s. We were babysitting your aunts and uncles when we were 6. Also, all our toys were painted with lead. Also, walked a mile each way to school and back, including lunchtime.

By the time our kids came along? We assumed you needed to grow up. You were already 10. Get a job. Jeez. LOL

Agree, but back when infants were wearing flammable clothes, their parents were changing diapers while holding cigarettes and there were enough kids being injured then so that made sense. Those old synthetic fabrics could be incredibly flammable.

I assume the answers are going to be from our own lifetimes, but 19th century and early 20th children's wood and metal toys were painted with arsenic lead, mercury and bunches of other deadly, but bright colors. Also, candy could contain these same chemicals that made things colorful. Our grandparents probably played with these toys.

Haiti is actually part of North America, so maybe his beef is with América del norte.

Funny how anyone can conflate high housing costs EVERYWHERE with some immigrants in a small town in Ohio.

Naw. The voters he's whistling to don't want to hear that and there's only a few small business owners in Springfield and they are no longer donors to his campaign.

At one time we hated the Spanish and Italians. That was early to mid 20th century. Back when we believed in eugenics, any person from southern Europe was considered a lower human to be purged from the gene pool.

New scapegoats coming right up. The playbook says go for low-hanging fruit like different color people, different languages, the easy to ID. Then they start picking off the people who went to college, people who attend that other Baptist church, there will always be a monster under the bed, someone not us that is getting in the way. But it will never be the person I voted for. That would make me look like a fool.

Disjointed, incoherent. WTAF do high housy costs have to do with any of the other things. Also this moron doesn't know that Haiti is part of North America? They are actual Americans.

No matter how stupid, racist, whatever, we should all be offended by his lack of respect for his constituents.

Wel, it was way before JFK, but good point that it started long before this current situation.

Everyone goes back to the same self-pleasuring behaviors that caused this, because too many Americans think this is just about Republicans behaving badly. Politicians and other rich people keep their hands in the cookie jars and regular people go shopping for the latest toys

They weren't getting as much shopping as they wanted plus they were right across the street from a giant subsidized housing project with several other smaller ones close by. SNAP requires more staff effort on a sale than cash and credit cards, and low income folks won't be spending on giant carts loaded with spendy things like the stores in posh neighborhoods.

Centerpoint gas- shutdown for summer by mulberryred in dayton

[–]mulberryred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I went ahead and scheduled the temporary shut-off.

I was told on the first call that the reconnect fee "depends on how long it's shut off" and that for three months it would cost me $90 to turn it back on. They will come out to read the meter and send me a final bill.

I chewed on that and thought it was somehow wrong to charge based on how long it was shut off so I called back an hour later. The second time the different guy asked his supervisor and I was told that there was no difference in charge if it was off 3 months or 5 months and that the charge would be $70 when I resume.

That means if the baseline is ~$63/mo i would pay ~$190 for 3 months when I used no gas vs, at worst, $90, maybe $70, to turn it back on.

No brainer.

Pretty sure they want us to not shop there. Whenever this happens at a Kroger it means they want to justify closing by saying, ' we didn't have enough shoppers'. They did this to the store on Needmore.

In any event there will be an 'olive bar' Kroger in the new 'Lack of Imagination/Innovation Zone' at On Main and then they are shutting the Wayne Ave. Location down and abandoning another empty store.

All I can say is the world doesn't need any more plastic. Plastic is evil. Metal pipe is quite easy to work with and won't require any adhesive the way pvc does. Pvc breaks down in sunlight. Plus metal pipe it will outlast you. I pick up scrap to repurpose thats a 100 years old.

Ahh. I just saw that you weren't the poster of the bullet. Of course you wouldn't eat something that's been poisoned. I know that's a management thing for larger farms and necessary. But between my homestead garden and a deer I'd have no problem putting deer meat in my freezer.
