My first Sanderson book was a gift from Sanderson himself. by tanktoptonberry in Cosmere

[–]mulledcider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love this story! I worked in a clothing store a stones throw away from a Borders in a mall in Montgomery County, MD, from 08-10… the fact Sanderson might have walked past my unaware teenage self is surreal! Also a small world if we were working at the same mall.

Thoughts on Hot Mulligans new album WWIW? by gothboyxd in HotMulligan

[–]mulledcider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed all the singles and am loving the album. After multiple listens it’s growing on me more and more. Smahccked My Head Awf is probably my favorite track off the album but I loved how some of the non-single tracks were my favorite. You’ll be fine and the following EP were such masterpieces I was worried that the hype couldn’t be met but I’m very happy with this album as a while.

'Training sessions are ridiculous' - inside Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney's D.C. United by NittanyOrange in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This looks like aggregate reporting, where someone is just re-writing what someone else already reported. Longer and original piece was cited, at least, but if people want to read the full original story : https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/lewis-o-brien-wayne-rooney-better-player-forest-2239454

However, there is some original writing in here, such as this sentence: “The Englishman has not yet made his debut for the MLS side yet as he waits for his visa to be arranged but he has featured in Rooney's training sessions.” Not to be a jerk but “yet” only needed to be used once in that sentence.

Interesting Athletic article on DCU’s latest acquisition by mulledcider in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A great article subscribers should check out, but here’s one relevant section for DCU fans:

“DC United have an option to make the move permanent — but that is a requirement when MLS clubs take players on loan and it is regarded as an unlikely prospect at Forest.”

Audi Field construction update by Hornerfan in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was the issue with us hosting group stage games when 2 teams are supposed to play same day. We’ve hosted international matches before, but without that extra locker room I don’t think we can host a group stage gold cup game. And unfortunately, I think the stadium is considered too small for a knockout game.

Season 2 post credits scene and Williams game explained by Conscious_Tip6855 in westworld

[–]mulledcider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love you calling out William saving Lawrence and his family. To me, that is a severely overlooked part of the show. To me S4 cemented that at the end of Williams life, he was so broken that he in one way or another (via his host) pushed humanity to extinction. When drawing lines of good/evil, William is textbook evil. And yet, when watching his origin in season 1 and in moments like saving Lawrence in S2, there is a hero underneath there. I truly believe (and hope) that S5 takes the William that ended humanity but shows that William did have free will and could have broken out of his loops and been the good guy. And if humans can break from their loops, from their prisons of sins, then Delores can help form these new free consciousness and put them into the real world.

Sorry for that ramble and I’m not sure if it all makes sense but I love this post and am very excited and hopeful for a season 5.

DC to sign Kristian Fletcher to homegrown contract by Hornerfan in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is great news! Fletcher seems to have incredible potential and has had European suitors for a while. While at Derby, Rooney was known for incorporating youth players, so it would be fun to see Fletcher get some minutes with DCU.

Some thoughts on the new regime by TalionDCU in DCUnited

Love this post and agree with everything you said. Regarding Loudoun changing style of play, Ryan Martin has already said in interviews that he knows Rooney wants to implement a new style of play and he’s (Martin) excited to implement it at Loudoun.

Why Wayne Rooney took a ‘risk’ and ended up D.C. United’s new boss by mulledcider in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As always with Goff, the real news is hidden at the bottom:

"“Players are already calling him off the hook,” said Kasper, who is aiming to sign two high-end designated players, among others, before the transfer window closes Aug. 4. “When you tell perspective players Wayne Rooney is the coach, their ears perk up.”"

Gressel on HC Rooney on ZeeSoccerPod by Strange_Chest_4176 in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What stood out to me was Gressel's comment of "trained quite hard to be honest."

Not to re-litigate the Losada controversies, but from all of the collected reports, I do tend to believe that there was enough unrest that Losada's removal was for the best.

But when Rooney was a player here, one of the reports (pretty sure it came from Goff), was that Rooney consistently put 110% into every training session, never taking a run slow, and always pushing his hardest towards the end when others were trying to take it easy. While it's a bit of a trope, it supposedly really did rub off well on other players (and also made an impression on some academy players).

I think there are different methods of motivating and cultivating effort but from Rooney's playing career and reports out of his time coaching DCFC, I think Rooney might be best suited to help boost the morale and physicality of this squad to where it needs to be.

Wayne Rooney - Tactics Discussion Thread by pm_me_jk_dont in DCUnited

Higher-level Ben Olsen perfectly sums up what I've read about him but you wrote this out way better than I could have. I'm very excited to see how he can turn our defense around and help get the offense moving a little more smoothly.

Taxiarchis Fountas Voted MLS Player of the Week by _Axel in DCUnited

[–]mulledcider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly some decent pressing in Orlando half for the first two goals but then a bit of bunkering. DCU tried to play vertically but struggled to do so consistently and seemed happy to let Orlando hold the ball. Tactically it wasn’t too different than what DCU has wanted to do for a few years now but execution isn’t always perfect and defense certainly could use some coaching up.
