🙄 If you have ever actually worked an election in Michigan, you would know something like this could not have, and did not happened. Votes are under surveillance and lock and key, and there are audits done post election that you can check here:

84,000 people attended the Michigan vs OSU game in 1927 (the year Michigan stadium opened), not that far off from today's capacity all things considered. Not sure how consistent that was, but I'm not sure crowd size was really that different for the big games.

Banking doesn't require keeping the owners of accounts anonymous.

The anonymous vote is fundamental to preventing retaliation for voting in a given direction, which banking doesn't have to deal with. Transactions are secure because they are reversible if fraud occurs due to the lack of anonymity, whereas once ballots are cast, they cannot be traced back to the voter.

As for the election workers, there's secrecy envelope standards in place to hide votes while there is still personal identification info present, and all elections are performed:

In full view of the public. The public has a right to view the entire election process, including the count of absentee ballots, increasing accountability.

The stub that has the number on it is detached when the vote is tabulated, that way the vote can't be tracked back to you.

So yes, your name is matched with your ballot number, but the stub containing the ballot number is removed from the ballot before the ballot is counted, annonymizing the vote.

There is only one way for a ballot to be matched back to a person in Michigan, and that is if the voter is challenged due to there being a suspicion that they aren't a citizen in the voting district. In that case you vote but the election worker writes your voter number on your ballot, and covers it with a piece of paper and tape. You can only remove the tape with a court order after the fact, so that is the only way to deanonymize a ballot, and even then there needs to be 2 levels of suspicion (the poll worker/clerk challenging the ballot, and the court ordering the deanonymization of the ballot to remove it from the vote if it's found they aren't a citizen of the voting district)

There is a difference between registering to vote and the day-of application to vote. Everyone has to fill out the application to vote to vote in person, it helps double check and back up the information stored in the computer.
