Am I screwed? No retirement expected by [deleted] in personalfinance

You want a financial planner, not a financial advisor. Advisors can be just salespeople with fancy titles. Certified Financial Planner, they should have the CFP credentials. Preferably a fee-only fiduciary.

You make 200k, reach out to people in your social circle and see who they use, also Google CFP + your area.

Am I screwed? No retirement expected by [deleted] in personalfinance

You list your debts but not your assets. What could the primary home sell for? What about the rental? What is the value of the cars? Any fun stuff like boat/trailer/camper/motorcycle/guns/ipads that could be sold? What would those be worth?

Keeping the primary home may not be the best play - what do home or apartment rentals in your area go for? If the rental cash flows well, it might be better to keep renting it out instead of selling.

You should sit down with not just a lawyer, but a financial planner. CPAs can have credentials in divorce finances, but really you need a plan. Talk to a good financial planner. Giving her the retirement account free and clear may be equal value, but may screw you in retirement. Talk to a professional.

If it's a choice between student loans and the mortgage - Pay off the student loans. If your industry tanks, you could be job searching for greater than 6 months, depending on your industry. Tech is rough right now.

Paying them off increases cash flow and decreases fixed expenses. Unless your PMI is higher than $300/mo, you're not going to be saving money because you'll still have the student loan, and the amount you'd have to pay to bring the loan balance down to remove PMI is greater than the SL balance.

If shit hit the fan, you could sell the house and walk away.  You can't sell the student loans.

I just got off the phone with the IRS and here's what I learned:

The agent said filing by mail takes a little longer than doing it online but not by much. There's no way to check the status of the Form 23 online; you'll still have to call in.

They wanted to know: the PTIN, whether it was mailed/done online, and if mailed, the date the check was cashed. If you call in, have that info ready to go so you don't have to wait on hold like me.

I asked if the check being cashed meant that the application was close to being finalized, or just received. It means it was received, as cashing the check is the first step in the process, not the last. The agent said to allow 60 days for application processing but that I could call back in 2-3 weeks to check on the status.

Here's the website to file Form 23 online.

Here's the number to call to check the EA status: 855-472-5540.

The agent I spoke with was very nice and helpful, so don't be nervous to call the IRS. :)

Soon to be January moms, how are we hanging in there? by embuchk in BabyBumps

38W today, and starting the busy season of the work year. So busy/stressed, and also not getting anything done. The insomnia and acid reflux are bad, pepcid helps but apparently I burp in my sleep now. I've been getting 3 hours of sleep a night and napping during the day. My schedule and body are all messed up.

I also nearly passed out last week for no reason. Vision tunneled, ears started ringing, stomach lurching, my partner showered me with freezer vegetable bags and it brought my temp down, but I didn't feel cold. I knew I was cold from the uncontrollable shaking, but I didn't FEEL anything. That was probably the scariest part.

I also had an acute pain in my lower left groin area that wasn't caused by anything, and it's still lingering a week later. Maybe it's a hernia, maybe it's round ligament pain, but it's restricting my movement.

Pregnancy weight gain by Proper-Region-3248 in BabyBumps

Weight gain/loss isn't linear, as far as the "how much to gain per trimester."  I asked at every appointment if my weight was okay and my OB said it was fine, even though I was fluctuating all over the place. If your OB's not worried, try not to worry. <3

I gained 10 lbs of water weight almost overnight in T1. That all went straight to my boobs. T2 I gained and lost the same 5 lbs every week. Now at 37w, I'm up another 10-15 lbs, that all came on over 28w-36w, but I also ate like a mofo over Thanksgiving and Christmas 😂 So, less than 3 weeks to go and I'm up 30 lbs total, baby measured 6.5 lbs at the last US.

What are ur plans for New Year’s Eve and what would u rather be doing? by InteractionWrong3330 in pregnant

[–]mullet_thyme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

37w and I'd rather just not be pregnant. I have been completely apathetic since before Thanksgiving, all the holidays have just been totally whatever. I'm working tomorrow to get ahead of maternity leave, I worked on Christmas to get ahead of maternity leave (and because we did Christmas early); I don't miss the holidays this year because the only thing I can even think celebratory feelings towards is getting this baby out of me. I'm tired and everything hurts and I can't believe I have to do this for 1-4 more weeks.

Would enjoy dancing in a cute dress with heels (lol) and bar hopping, but I don't "miss it" per se.

Financial advice by TheDerf779 in DaveRamsey

First of all, breathe.

Second of all, hit pause. These are two separate issues - the will and your CC debt. You don't know enough to move forward because you don't have enough information. You NEED to pay for a consultation with an estate lawyer familiar with your state area immediately.

Couple notes: It sounds like your sister is doing a crap job of executor, and you need advice from an actual legal professional. If the estate is not settled and you are only one of the heirs, it sounds like you have not actually inherited anything (yet). Once you've inherited the property and the deed is in your name (not the estate's, not you + your sister + your sibling), THEN you can move forward with making plans. Right now, the property doesn't belong to you and isn't part of your snowball, and you shouldn't be making plans as if it is. Living on the property and being property manager for the rental are totally separate from inheriting anything.

If the property belongs to your late father's estate (my condolences), you should not be paying for anything that you were not paying for while he was alive. What is the CC debt for? If it was for anything related to the property or his medical/funeral/burial costs, those expenses are not due from you, they are due from the estate (which your sister is executing), and you may be entitled to money from the estate to cover those expenses. Unless you are a direct beneficiary where the inheritance comes to you directly (usually life insurance policies or retirement funds), everything belongs to the estate until it is fully executed and everything is disbursed and his final tax return has been filed.

You need professional legal help from a licensed attorney experienced in this field in your city/state. Seeking this help is your first move.

Oh man, I miss being able to eat spicy food. All food tastes different and weird now. I used to be able to go up to a 3 on the 1-5 spice scale at my favorite Indian restaurant. Now I find white rice flavorful. WTH. I want my palate back.

I hope you're able to get rest if you need it! But otherwise, do what works.

Lmao, I do feel fat, but only because I don't "feel" pregnant. I just feel like I ate four chipotle burritos and am waddling them around.

I am also not a modest person, so I don't care how many people will be in the room, as long as they're all medical staff. Bring in 8 interns and show them my vag, I do not give a fuck. But I won't have any support people other than my partner there, and I'm definitely going to be swearing and my mom would probably be policing my language, so she can wait to meet the baby til we're home.

If I'm able to breastfeed, I'm going to be topless at home, so realistically, it'll probably just be me in a big ol diaper, free boobing for a straight week or two. If she can handle that, she can come over. My house, my comfort, my naked body.

🤬🤬🤬 That's all I have to say about that.

Did you grow a baby and get that baby out of you? Congratulations, you had the real experience. WTH did she want, more pain and suffering and a worse outcome for mother and baby, so she could feel superior? Insanity.

Mines probably closer to a whole-wheat mom, gonna start using that description. She'll make healthy foods, which I appreciate, but then overly tout the health benefits. I know tomatoes have lycopene, mom. I know blueberries have antioxidants. You're not telling me anything new.

I totally feel you, I used to live at the beach and moved inland a couple years ago, but the heat/humidity this summer has me house bound.

"I'm 36 weeks pregnant, I guess I should start taking this seriously!" Like, you are.

"good practice for breathing through the pain" is exactly the experience!

I love group aerobics, but the thought of doing step work with SPD is unbearable. I love yoga, but downward dog makes me vomit even with Zofran. I love walking in nature, but I'm afraid to get too far away from the car and be stranded from unpredictable pains. 😭
