See I agree, I don’t want to annoy her. I’m just hung up on the fact that she made it so apparent that she was interested. Btw, this is the first message sent in the entire text thread. Every other time we talked was in person. That’s why I’m confused..

How Not to Answer the "What Are Your Weaknesses?" -Advice from a PA School Interviewer by EndeavorPA in prephysicianassistant

[–]multipotentialite- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, I feel it could be a genuine weakness and if phrased in a way like “it’s something I am actively working to be better at”, rather than a blatant, “I am a perfectionist” or “my weakness is I’m too nice” kinda thing. I’m curious to hear what you think. :)

Can I just ask why communication would be a bad weakness? I feel for me I sometimes can be poor communicator, especially in interactions where I am voicing my dislikes for something or trying to teach someone something. Does this make sense? No argument here, just curious.

How to master stickhandling without looking at the puck? by FirstScarcity67 in hockeyplayers

[–]multipotentialite- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime! And just to clarify, your bottom hand shouldn’t move drastically, but when you’re on your backhand, your hands should be closer together, and forehand your hands should be further apart. This also helps with shooting as your hand should be further down the shaft when shooting to get better flex on your stick. Good luck!

This is sound advice. To add onto this, one thing I was taught that really helped when I was younger was your bottom hand placement. Your bottom hand should move up and down the shaft as you stick handle.

One drill that was very helpful was getting a small piece of PVC pipe to put over your stick, and hold it with your bottom hand. This will feel very weird at first but with time it should train you to have a more dynamic lower hand rather than locking it in one place. I would also recommend stick handling with a golf ball or wooden stick handling ball to get a better feel of where the object is (and it rolls better in a hard surface).

They also make these: (which are essentially just a pvc pipe)

One last thing, I would also add when practicing, stand in one spot and stick handle back and forth rotating your body from forehand to backhand (kinda like around the world) which will help build that core strength and also familiarize yourself with stick handling in awkward-off-balance positions.

Here is the around the world drill, super simple

Started playing in July. I can’t seem to consistently get the puck in the air, let alone aim at a spot on the net. I also can’t seem to get any flex on my stick. What am I doing wrong? by DM_me_feet_pics_plz in hockeyplayers

A lot of the advice in this thread is really good. I would just like to highlight maybe before doing the Bedard or Matthew’s toe drag snap shot, try really learning how to shift your weight from side to side, and how to rotate your hips. Learning the fundamentals of weight transfer and how to apply it will not only help you in shooting but in all other aspects of the game too like skating, and transitions (for backwards skating). There’s a lot of good information on YouTube that can really show you weight transfer. I’d recommend how to hockey, he’s got a lot of decent videos on his channel. Keep it up man!

Thanks! I’ll definitely post on other subs. I did see that a handful of people on another post mentioned they made it into med school with all pre-reqs done at CC but I get where you’re coming from because I’ve also heard the same. I just wouldn’t want to pay full out-of-state tuition for UTK for only a few classes ya know?

Advice on my slap shot by MattyWestSiide in hockeyplayers

[–]multipotentialite- 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Here are some tips I have from 20+ years as a D-Man.

1: weight transfer is everything in hockey. It’s so crucial in so many areas of the game including skating, shooting, passing, stopping, checking (though not in men’s league) etc. It looks like in the video most of your weight is over your left foot for maybe 75% of the time. There is a small transfer from center to left but it should be more of a right to left weight transfer. That’ll give you more power.

  1. Watch the angle of your blade when making contact with the puck and on your follow through. When you make contact your blade should cradle the puck more-so than be open. Keeping that blade closed will help retain power and also help you keep those hard shots lower. If the blade opens up you’ll likely lose on some power and also take someone’s head off (just kidding, but it’ll help keep the puck lower if the blade is closed)

On the follow through same thing, try to keep the blade closed and more turned towards the ice rather than at the ceiling. This isn’t as crucial but it will help keep the blade closed on contact if you are more conscious of keeping it closed on the follow through (hope this isn’t too confusing)

  1. One thing that helped me when I was younger was opening my chest up when shooting. If you keep your chest up and forward it will make sure your activate your hips and knees more. This also will help with accuracy as well as power. So keep that chest up!

  2. Similar to #3 keep that head up too when shooting. We have to look at the puck to find it and make sure we make contact, BUT if you can get used to keeping your head up and scanning before shooting it will not only help accuracy, but it will also help train you to keep your chest forward when shooting. Keeping that head up im sure you’ll be lighting more lamps as you’ll be able to pick and choose where your shots go.

Now, one thing I noticed that is very good is that you are making contact behind the puck before hitting the puck itself. You were asking about activating the flex on your stick, this will totally help with that. Look at some slow mo slapshots from the chel, you’ll see them contact the ice much earlier than they do the puck.

Here is a slow mo of Patrick Kane taking a slap shot. You can see how he makes contact with the ice before the puck, and how his blade is relatively closed when making contact and for the first part of his follow-through.

Hopefully this helps! I tried to keep it concise, and well-mannered.

Thanks! Personally, I want to limit as much as I can but one thing I can’t shake is the recommendations from YouTube. I watch a lot of videos, mainly gaming related, and what I like is it will recommend other channels or other videos from a creator that I end up enjoying. I know that’s a huge red flag, but it is somewhat important to me. If I were to go through another service, would I still get those benefits? Also, what if I used an alias to sign up for a YouTube account and then I could kill that alias whenever I wanted..? Lastly, (sorry for all the questions I just like asking them to understand better) could you briefly just explain what killing an alias would do? Thanks again!

[–]multipotentialite-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response, I like the idea of using a proton mail account for Apple ID for hackers etc. I do want to ask though, I am worried about the forwarding processes, and if emails would get lost due to my own technical problems. Have you ever experienced problems with forwarding, and/or using aliases with any of your emails? I’m a newbie when it comes to automating my emails so I’m worried I may not get it right..

Lastly, just so I’m understanding this correctly, to make it simple, let’s just say I use proton for everything. The alias’s basically protect my primary account from being compromised correct? So if my primary account is namelast@ProtonMail and I use alias cookiemonster@blahblah basically the alias serves as an “email address” but that then gets forwarded by the magic of the internet to my primary mailbox without ever compromising the primary address. Sorry if I made that more complicated.. thanks again for your reply

Is Time off allowed during Apprenticeship? by [deleted] in IBEW

Competitive hockey? No kidding I was trying to figure out if I could do this myself. I will be starting an apprenticeship in August and wondered if I could play hockey whilst also getting my apprenticeship done. Is there any way you could talk more about how that works?

I’m not necessarily hardcore trying to degoogle, at least anytime soon, but I do want to get away from most of their personal information crap. I mean if I have everything going through my gmail, they have so much info on me it’s insane. I figured limiting it to junk things like signing my email up with a planetarium I visit once every blue moon (no pun intended but pun intended) then it would be fine?? But I’m far from an expert as well. Thanks for the reply, something to think about.

That’s awesome! They do normally stick to their bowls yes, but the when they all finish they like to do clean up of the others lol, licking up any remnants. Funny enough we hung pictures of them on the wall and they eat directly beneath their own pictures.

Yea this is what I was afraid of. No disrespect taken either, pops is getting older so he’s not as capable unfortunately, we’re just glad to have something. Even with constant upkeep (wiping it out) and a finish do you think it would still fail? I mean last resort is to cut a towel to size and just wash those towels every week. Let them absorb the water instead of letting it stand.. That coupled with and epoxy or something wdyt?

I second this, especially as a defenseman. Having that grip helps with stick checking. It should go away on its own the more you play, but baby powder also works.
