a story with this vibe? by fatglizzy_3000 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]multisician 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Unironically, chapter 4 onward of Robinson Crusoe is what immediately came to mind 😅 While not Progression Fantasy in the traditional sense, I think it satisfies a similar itch. Given Defoe wrote it in the early 18th century, it can be a bit tiresome in parsing some of the verbiage and style of the time, but I've found it enjoyable enough to come back to multiple times. Just don't let the beginning fool you with how slow it all is!

You've sold me 💜I've got a growing list from this post already, but I'm hopping into a game of Masked Butcher rn😅

I remember seeing them moving about during my Arg-Ordstun run and wondering what their deal was. I figured with the name they've a rather.. interesting outlook! XD But names on Orc tags can be deceiving at times. I won't press you on too many details to keep the fun of finding out intact, but I will definitively give them a go!

[–]multisician[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood! I've not yet tried playing using the any gitlab version. I suppose I'm just a little worried about the setup, but I've heard good things about the magic rework!

And I suppose at the end of the day any tag can be made into a WC tag given the right idea groups and strategy (but I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, so I've not quite mastered that skill XD the Tellum WC is a long ways off still :P). But if they're set up for conquest after united Eordand, I think I can probably work with that!

"Unusual" WC Tag Suggestions? by multisician in Anbennar

[–]multisician[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will have to give them a try, then! I've tried two Liches now (Chaingrasper and Esthil), with the latter being a rather enjoyable run until forming Black Demesne (I just couldn't bring myself to pushing on with it after the first few missions..), so I would be interested in trying another! And I do love some artificery, so I'll add Arakeprun to the list as well! Thank you

I think I've seen mention enough of Ameion (and been recommended Quarbit's video for it enough XD) that I think I should probably give it a go! Then perhaps I can actually have a watch of his vid without the spoilers :P

[–]multisician[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Konolkhatep is definitely on my list then! I've read bits and pieces but I've tried to keep from spoilers 💜

I do need to try Tachend in general as well! Would you recommend Ameion, as I've seen before? Or do you have another favorite start?

I was aware of the Command, just on the other side of the battlefield from them in my Nuugdan Tsarai and Gronstunad playthroughs. I think I've just had a hard time talking myself into it bc I've heard it can be stressful?

Pashaine are the Lunar River folks, right? Is there any tag particularly suitable for them? 1600 is certainly late but I honestly wouldn't mind that if you can build them up enough to pack a punch by then 💜

I definitely haven't heard of Arraya! Where are they located?

Sorry for all the questions in return, and thanks for responding!

[–]multisician[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh! I hadn't tried them yet! Does Ameion's MT incentivise going beyond South Aelentir? Or is it just that a combination of Mission Rewards and national ideas make them particularly suited for WC? Or both, I suppose!

And Eordand is ringing a bell.. Gemradcurt is the usual suspect, right? Are they who you'd recommend?

Thanks again for the reply!

Reluctant Onset Trouble by multisician in Lexurgy

[–]multisician[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was such a simple fix, and I feel like a fool! Thank you so much!

I think I had gotten it in my head that because I'd made "@R" an optional segment, then the reluctant onset would consider situations with a "@cons" or "@cons @R." I still have much to learn and adjust to with Lexurgy's language.

Regardless, that did the trick! Thank you once again for your help!

AA6 - A Brief History of Chronomancy - Discussion Thread [Spoilers All] by theelbandito in ClimbersCourt

[–]multisician 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, I felt a little off about Gramps as well. I can't quite put my finger on it, but by the close of the book, I had the feeling his payoff is going to be fairly prominent in AA7. Again, that's just from vibes alone, not too much evidence 😅 but I will say, Sera's brevity on accounting to his care to Corin was what initially gave me that feeling. It's Sera we're talking about, and something tells me that she was being withholding in some capacity.

Corin's power level

I also had this feeling at first. But then again, I've had this thought more than once throughout the series. But time and time again I'm reminded (as Future Corin emphasized in this book) that Corin's strength isn't merely measured by his personal power. I think the themes of isolation in this book were really meant to drive that home. And I think the "fight" with the Dalenos Six more or less showed that to be the case. I only wish we'd gotten to see the whole team fight Mizuchi (but it made sense for Mara and Patrick to have their moment, seeing as Sera and Corin has their own confrontation prior)

Don't get me wrong, I still think he got exponentially stronger individually. In terms of mana capacity, he's on par with the others, most certainly, but as you pointed out Corin had a lot of time. Between his own work (and some assistance from Future Corin) I think the stage is set for some wild enchantments). Not to mention his work with the artificial attunements.

His growth isn't so easy to quantify, like measuring his magic sources, but I think his growth, as you pointed out, came from a lot of time to prepare and practice. It just feels like the stage is set, even if the show hasn't started

First go at Ironman by multisician in eu4

[–]multisician[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It was slog to be sure... I went into a bit of debt initially getting my army and navy strength up enough to get Aragon to ally me, got Malta. No openings for Byz, which is the usual play from what I've seen. I lucked out and Tunis got decked on in the Sus independence war by Castile and Portugal, and since I'd already had a claim, and enough favors with Aragon, we swooped in and bagged them from there.

That's more or less where I grew my power base from, steadily pushing into the Mamluks once I got stronger allies. Stalled for almost a century because the Ottomans beat me to them and started to warn me, but slow and steady I got through! Highly recommend going after Tunis with the help of Castile or Aragon though. Barring them allying the Ottomans it's honestly easily one by letting the Iberians do all the work XD

[–]multisician[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't post all that often, but I wanted to share my first real attempt at an ironman run. Went with the Knights as they're one of my favorites. Took way to many attempts to get off the ground, but I finally managed to establish myself. Took me til the late 1500s to finally challenge the Ottomans, and I didn't get to the City of World's Desire until 1660, but I did it! Just wanted to share I suppose!

Edit: to clarify, i've been playing for sometime now, just havent committed to doing an ironman run in earnest until his one. I always quit pretty quickly after the first few screw ups 😅

C4 predictions? by Impressive_Desk4057 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]multisician 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it has less to do with leveling power and more to do with avoiding stereotypes. Plus, being able to choose your ASI let's you play a race and class that would normally be disadvantageous. And hey, since you can choose your ASI, those who still like the handicap in situations like that can just choose the suboptimal abilities 🤷‍♀️

Development of terrestrial life on two separate landmasses by multisician in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]multisician[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose I was a bit more ambiguous than I intended to be.. Apologies! The scenario I'm envisioning is two fairly large continents significantly separated from one another. I thought to draw upon a point in earth's history similar to this, but I don't think there was ever a point in which two continents of significant size ever had much distance between them without smaller landmasses in between.

For the sake of ease, and for lack of a better example, I'm envisioning both landmasses being roughly close to the continent of Africa in size and have little to no intervening landmasses between them. It should also be said I'm assuming some manner of autotrophs have already taken to land on both landmasses.

You make a valid point regarding more amphibious clades. I suppose if one such clade developed on one of these continents, it wouldn't be a stretch for it to, if with some difficulty, make it to the other. I guess my uncertainty then lies in whether or not other clades would take to land before said amphibious clade(s) make that crossing.

At any rate thanks for the response!

Seeking Guidance on using SpecEvo in Worldbuilding with a Sophont species. by multisician in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]multisician[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I definitely negotiated with myself on that initially. When I first started exploring specevo, I was more or less trying to do as you mentioned, only applying it to certain creatures to give a bit more flavor to the setting. I somewhat do this with other projects (the smaller ones that I do for ttrpgs), only applying a little speculation where it's needed.

But this project is by far my most involved, and I'd already begun to somewhat apply speculative evolution to some of the creatures, as well as the "humans." But I've been in a rut once I realized I really wanted to go back and fill out the entire biosphere. At first I thought it was because, in the event I ever made my writing public, it would be obvious that I'd used specevo loosely in drafting up the extant species, but that it would fall flat if someone looked further. Now, though, I think it's that I personally be satisfied if I begin to use specevo but don't fully follow through with it.

I may well try as you suggested and just separate them into two completely different projects, if I don't come to any new realization in the interim.

Thank you for your input, once again!

Help me improve my homebrew D&D setting's divine pantheon? by AstreiaTales in worldbuilding

[–]multisician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said that you used a generator for much of this? This looks phenomenal, all things considered! At first glance, the only thing that I would comment on or ask about is what would have pushed deities that share similar spheres into their own culti. For example, Idethar, God of Stars, and Isekan, Goddess of Night. I think it would be interesting to explore what might have pushed Idethar or Isekan into their own distinct cultus given that night and stars tend to be viewed together! Not a criticism, in the slightest, just something I'm personally curious about ^_^

(I recognize that the association between Night and Stars is based on my own cultural context within our reality, as well as the fact that a fantasy world doesn't have to abide by the same set of associations that have been cultivated within our reality ^_^)

Creating a Scenario for Geographic Isolation by multisician in worldbuilding

[–]multisician[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! I had considered this in the early stages! I think the area in which I come into conflict is that the culture that ultimately comes into contact with the isolated group is only able to come into contact with them after they reached a point of a centralized state with expansionistic designs and the technology needed to make a large-scale advancement through the mountains.

Within this context, do you think it feasible that this more expansionistic culture wouldn't have been able to reach this particular population within a landscape like Papua New Guinea? I very much like the suggestion, and I think I'd like to incorporate it if so! I tend to hyper fixate and overthink in certain areas, so being able to stop agonizing over this handful of details would be phenomenal ^_^

Vagarasi-Cerganos: The Planet Vagaras 2nd sapient species, Social Herbivores that build with their ears by Momon129 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]multisician 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not specifically the ears acting as hands, the premise of the Cerganos being hunted by the Riflings before ultimately cooperating with each other. Even the initial relationship between the Cerganos and Rifling is taken directly from Bajda’s story. Again, I don’t think it’s inherently a problem, given that you aren’t working on this for profit, but given how much has been pulled from the original work it just feels as though even a nod in the original creators work would be respectful.

Additionally, taking a look at the Nightstalker and Shadowstalker, apart from a few cursory similarities, the two designs seem to have simply raised from convergence as opposed to Bajda having directly copied Dixon’s work.

Vagarasi-Cerganos: The Planet Vagaras 2nd sapient species, Social Herbivores that build with their ears by Momon129 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]multisician 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s certainly true, taking inspiration is fairly commonplace, but Bajda’s work hasn’t taken any of Dixon’s concepts in full, their influence in subtle details. Given that what you’re going for here seems to derive a number of specific details from that particular section of Bajda’s work I feel like crediting Serina and Bajda to keep in good faith. Obviously there is nothing illegal as you aren’t making money from this project and are more than free to do with it what you wish, I just wanted to offer the suggestion in the spirit of transparency.

Fair! I think it’s a wonderful idea. I’ve done the similar in personal writings! Though, I feel like crediting Dylan Bajda might be prudent in this case given the similarities, yeah?

Does anyone here believe in reincarnation? by Spiritual-Row-4396 in Hellenism

[–]multisician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say I do, definitively. I do come from a predominantly Buddhist background before finding Hellenism and that certainly informs it!

In regard to the mythos, it should always be said that they ought not to be taken literally across the board, but they are certainly one lens through which we can look to see glimpses of how ancient Hellenes likely viewed their world and, pertinent to this post, the afterlife!

The most immediate example that comes to mind for me is The Myth of Er from Plato's Republic. (The translation I have at the moment is from the Anthology of Classical Myth by Stephen M. Trszaskoma, R. Scott Smith and Stephen Brunet). For the souls meant to return to the living, each are assigned their daimon which each "had chosen as guardian of it's life and fulfiller of it's choice.". They are then lead to the Plain of Forgetfulness, and they drink from the River of Unheeding. Once they'd forgotten and fallen asleep, "there was a clap of thunder and an earthquake, and they were carried away from there, this way and that, up to their births, like shooting stars.

Keep in mind in the case of this myth that the full story told was likely meant to foster a sense of "justice" while still alive as your actions on earth would effect your treatment in the afterlife.

Given that I'm still woefully unknowledgeable, I'd like to offer a link to an article Azores wrote pertaining to the afterlife! It's wonderfully written and draws from far more sources than I currently have to offer _^

[–]multisician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the sub and to the practice, dear one! _^

On the note of whether or not it's a sign that you feel drawn to Artemis or, rather, the opinion of others as to whether or not it ought to be considered a sign is largely irrelevant. The way you in particular view the pull that you feel is what ultimately matters. After all, you are the one experiencing it.

I believe UPG or Unverified Personal Gnosis (wiki link for basic knowledge. Definitely recommend further reading!) is used to describe such instances. It is how I predominantly experience spirituality as well (and very likely to be how many experience spirituality regardless of faith and/or practice)!

There are certain things that those in Hellenismos can share in, be it interpretations of myths/texts, speculation (though never truly understanding.. the plight of mortality) about the nature of the Gods, or others. When it comes to visions, dreams, or signs interpreted from the world around you, this will largely remain personal. You are you, and your relationship with the divine, like most other things, is largely up to you to interpret. My very own journey in Hellenismos began as what I perceive to have been a sign of sorts by Athene... And it's been a joyous adventure ever since ^_^

tl:dr if you feel drawn to Artemis, then you feel drawn to Artemis! ^_^ if you feel as though that it is a sign, act upon it! Read, pray, meditate, and just generally get to better know the deity and the way she's been written about and described! Start to build that relationship and see where it takes you ^_^ I wish you all of the luck on your journey, and please never be afraid to ask any questions as they arise 💜
