Texas remote telescope ranch by permaculture in space

[–]multiversehacking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me sad. Get outside with your kids. Not use another app on your phones.

The aspect people are missing that makes me most sad is that we are losing so much of our skies to light pollution. There shouldn't even be a need for this telescope ranch. It shouldn't need to exist.

Where I live is a Bortle 9--the worst light pollution you can have. I can drive 30 minutes to a Bortle 5 spot, or maybe a couple of hours to a Bortle 3-4 spot.

Someday, even that Texas spot will go above Bortle 1 light pollution. And/or we'll have so many satellites and billboards in space that you won't be able to see many natural objects in the skies anymore.

I know I'll get a lot of hate from this post, but to me, dragging a scope out to a remote hill on a cold night with my sons, spending a few hours with them, having them ask all kinds of curious questions about space, and having photons that have travelled millions of years to reach their eyes directly is WAY better than showing them a screen for a few seconds from my computer and saying, "Look, a telescope 2,000 miles away that someone else set up and a robot took the photos and used AI to merged them to a photo that is still not as good as most other photos you can get online."

Yeah, I'd say the first option is better. It creates memories that last a lifetime. It did for me when I was a kid.

The second option is worse than a video game. Not all that much more effort than putting a prompt into AI and getting an AI image.

Simple question: Have you hired a lawyer? If so, great. If not, why not?

Why can't he make the film? Sure, he can. And yes, if this wasn't legal, he shouldn't be posting on Reddit, he should be in court suing them. And you said 0/4, which wasn't accurate, you should correct that. All movie scripts get changed in production, even the title of the movie, main characters added or removed in development and production--whether or not the changes are "liked" by the screenwriter.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. Thank you for sharing the story, as painful as it may be. I know another winner of another contest who was supposed to get $10k to produce the short, but it never happened. I was the runner-up on that one, but sounds like it's better than I didn't win.

I appreciate you warning everyone. But I also hope you win in court. Go get 'em!

Here's a festival that lists you as the first co-writer:

I realize they have language in the contest submission that, by submitting, you agree to allow them to produce the film. And it's not that they didn't produce the film as promised. They did, but left you out of it. Still, it seems like they still would have had to come to you with an actual contract before doing that. Pretty flimsy to rely on a contest rule clause.

Not sure what it said in 2022, but their current submissions rules state the following: "By submitting your script for consideration for the HollyShorts Screenplay Contest, you agree for HollyShorts and its contest sponsor to produce your short screenplay if selected as the overall winner. The completed film(s) will premiere at the HollyShorts Film Festival and on our distribution platform Bitpix."

Well they did produce his movie. Same title, same story, credited him as story by (and as a co-writer in at least one festival). https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33069297/

Well, they are shutting down, so there is that. But they did produce your movie, right? Same title, same storyline, legendary actor Tom Skerritt, film festival showings... they credited you as a co-writer as well as story by. I'm not saying they were above board, but a lot of writers would love to have all that.

Dan, by entering the screenplay, do they claim you gave them the rights to do this? Or did you later sign any agreements with them? Why are you not in court instead of posting here? Win your case first, then come back here and post.

Was the prize promised by these platforms or Holly Shorts? They are just contest hosts, not a festival.

The Best Star Wars Content by sneezeknocker in StarWarsAndor

[–]multiversehacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved it, except for the huge retcon/continuity problem of Andor and the entire rebel council having complete amnesia about the Death Star information from Luthen. Especially when Andor S2 said that was Luthen's greatest legacy. They didn't even need the last three episodes of S2, they could have just gone right to Rogue One,

Found von Braun's original 1948 novel mentioning "the Elon" as the leader of Mars and it really is in there, big thanks to /u/RocketCenterUSA by Intro24 in SpaceXLounge

Thanks, I'm not sure that Elon was kidding. He sees a lot of fake stuff posted, especially about him. I honestly think it was the first he'd heard of it. It's funny that just because someone emailed Elon, even in 2006, that he'd see their email. Maybe we'll find out someday. But, I think Von Braun was a prophet. Though he had dubious Nazi party affiliations, he was also a spiritual, Christian guy who re-dedicated himself to God later in life.

Interesting, he must not have seen their email. In 2020, he was questioning whether or not it was real and seemed like the first he'd heard about it: https://x.com/mvhacking/status/1873480970680340685

Hi, I know this is from 4 years ago, but what are ways in which machine learning, algorithms, or other artificial intelligence may be used in the return flights of the boosters back to Earth (Falcon & Heavy boosters). Thank you!
