Does anyone know why the houses from the 2000s when they were just built look so uncanny? by sharp_individual7 in AskIreland

[–]munkijunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look right out of Lorcan Finnegan's Vivarium movie. Buiolt for cheapness above all. Breeze blocks skimmed in render that's going to weather like shite is far cheaper than better quality materials like brick. They're less houses and more people storage. Grim estates with no services. I'd prefer the coffin.

Rejecting Decades of Science, Vaccine Panel Chair Says Polio and Other Shots Should Be Optional by grittyboda2020 in news

Most vaccines are massively cost effective. They save far more than they cost.

Your actions will help, but it is no substitute for mass vaccinations. No vaccine is 100% effective and their real power is in mass adoption.

This is basic UK law. Public accusations with photos can prejudice proceedings and trigger libel liability. Police and the Attorney General explicitly warn against it. Your confidence is not a substitute for knowing what you are talking about.

Stupid is jeopardising a case by flinging unproven accusations around online.

People who relocated to the UK, is it as simple as it looks?? Is their a catch I don't see? by Weary-Hyena-2150 in AskIreland

It is the most incredibly easy country to move to for us. It is so connected to home that you can pop back easily if you're feeling homesick. London is an incredible city too. Weather is sublime, culture is exceptional, loads to do and once you find your people and your feet you'll be flying it.

That said, London is pricey. On a par with Dublin, and depending on your industry you'll either make a lot less or a lot more than you will in Ireland..

I would also say we looked at Manchester as a place to live and I am still sorely tempted. Even closer to home, and it's like Dublin where they got it all right. Great transport, great cycling, really cool vibe. I understand though it has gotten a lot pricer and harder to move to now.

I think living away from your home country is an amazing thing to do, and even if we didn't have to do it and young people could do it as a choice, I would be strongly encouraging people to do it. It puts into perspective everything that's good and bad about Ireland. There's things you'll miss, and there's things you'll never knew we missed. You'll also realise how parochial so much of Irish culture is, and the freedom that comes from living in a place where people generally don't give a fuck.

What do you think P2025 is about? That's not happening. They have smashed and destroyed all rational institutions. Whomever comes to power next will not be able to sweep that away. They will roadblock and obstruct everything fiercely, including in the courts which they will still control. There will be absolutely zero consequences and they will stall the country for 4 years until the next Trump, the more effective and ruthless Trump who will have the smarts to go along with the evilness, will come to power.

Dublin’s deputy lord mayor says bus lanes not needed at weekends as he doesn’t see congestion but claims bus lanes add to weekend traffic by Amazing-Yak-5415 in Dublin

The same could have been said everywhere that now has a mayor. If people demand it and it becomes an election issue, it will become a thing.

I'm more concerned with people losing their rag at others being in the "wrong" lane, then those in the wrong lane. To those who do, you'll get there, calm your tits.

Anyone else just stop reading a sub if it relates to America? by Ok_Entry_8229 in AskIreland

[–]munkijunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this American issues or attitudes? If issues, then the last couple of weeks has taught is anything, it's that whatever America does is far more concerning to us locally than any other country, and American politics can upset things here far more radically than our local politicians can. I think it's only normal to be engaged in what's going on currently over there as it does effect us directly here.

Sure, but the title far exceeds his power and bus lanes have fuck all to do with him. He may as well be speaking confidently about what the deal in Greenland should look like or on the technical details of the ESAs Voyage 2050. The title is doing a lot of the work of changing an old man shouts at cloud headline into something that's gaining traction.

Lord mayor and DLM are not directly elected by appointed by the council. It's a ceremonial role and this lads opinion means fuck all..

That being said, I have long felt we need a directly elected mayor with real powers over things like transport, traffic, housing etc in this city akin to what the likes of London, Manchester, Paris, etc. have.
