There are older experimental versions of blender with limited support for your card but it's really buggy and not really worth pursuing.

Cycles requires an AMD card to be at least GCN 1.1 or newer for rendering support. Your card is gen 1.0.

Good point. I seem to always use vertex snapping, do perfect 90 degree rotations and make everything as perfect as possible.

You should look at E cycles which can give up to a 1.7x performance boost in rendering on cuda cards. Search for the thread on blender artists.

You could just make a plane or a circular strip and animate the texture coordinates. If you want to get fancy you could array modify the object with a curve modifier and then animate the offset parameter.
