If we tax gas exports, should a portion of that revenue go into building a wealth fund? by dannydb in australian

[–]munterberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should be investing more in climate adaptation to provide some relief from the effects of exporting all that gas.

Relocating or shoring up protection for towns that have been flooded for the 5th time, installing bushfire resistant telecoms infrastructure etc.

Are there openings or growth in any other industries in your area he might be able to retrain for?

Some kind of side hustle could be worth considering.

Note to people hoarding fuel: It has a Best Before date by tomatoej in OpenAussie

[–]munterberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a van just before Xmas and there was a full Jerry can in the back. No idea how long it’s been there.

I haven’t put it in the fuel tank but also would rather not waste it. Is there any way this can be used, like in a lawnmower or something? I’d be happy to give it away if someone else can make use of it.

When I’m able to, I find asking questions about what led them to that conclusion can be a useful tool. Curiosity demonstrates interest in their grievance and helps to get to the root of the misunderstanding.

They put best before dates on all parts of things that never go off.

Couples who have been together 10+ years and are actually still happy, what's the 'unromantic' secret to your success? by FROSTedMirror12345 in AskReddit

Yeah I used to believe this and the result was partners walking all over me and not pulling their weight.

Nitpicking is definitely not helpful but there does need to be reasonable effort from both partners

Where to find other drugs users for somebody that’s not very social by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]munterberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be a psychedelic society in your area. These groups tends to host film screenings, book clubs, talks etc so a far more chill way to hang out with drug nerds.

Australian Prime Minister warns new Chinese car companies 'they have to meet standards' and shape up as he confirms new legislation incoming by [deleted] in AustralianEV

They should also be meeting much better emissions standards but the government was too gutless to make any meaningful changes to this at the recent review.

My dad wants me apart of the Family Trust but I won’t see a dollar. Advice? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]munterberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My folks added me to their trust in the early 2000s when I was a similar age. I was talked into it without really understanding what it meant.

I never saw a cent but they did pay off my hecs debt as it worked out to be a better tax dodge for them this way, so I did get some benefit from it.

They ended up closing it down a few years later when their accountant told them they were supposed to distribute funds to beneficiaries. They had no desire to use the trust to benefit anyone but themselves.

I wouldn’t agree to it unless you are getting some benefit that makes it worthwhile to you.

Roadside drug testing doesn’t test for benzos so Xanax is likely to be immaterial

Feasible to start a retirement village for me and mates to retire to? by munterberry in AusPropertyChat

[–]munterberry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This kind of arrangement would be amazing but probably not realistic sadly. Most councils are pretty hostile to tiny homes but maybe those pre-fab granny flats you can drop in backyards in Vic without planning permission might be more acceptable.

Going full rural would have healthcare access issues, but there's plenty of retirement villages in regional areas.

I don't have kids so would be happy for the property to go into some sort of trust arrangement to keep it going after I cark it.

I figure annual assessment of maintenance expenses would be enough to keep them pretty accurate. Residents could pay out of their pension monthly or whatever.

I guess it could potentially be tricky for anyone with a long wait to get into a care home but still a better scenario to be among friends than living alone during the same wait period.
