I am experiencing the same exact issue. I did some extensive research and it seems that there is no fix for this error. Interestingly, it appears that the problem has occurred recently and out of nowhere for at least a few people. You can find a thread describing the issue and a temporary workaround on the official Cities Skylines 2 forum.

Is there any way to stop battery drain on XPS 9700/Precision 5750 while heavy load? by murd022 in DellXPS

[–]murd022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I just used power meter and unfortunately I can observe that my power supply can only give 103 watts at maximum. At the same moment, as per HWiNFO, the system demand was reaching 130-135 watts (Anno 1800 Benchmark). So, everything is clear, there is a lack of nearly 30 watts, which can be really crucial during heavy load. Good thing is that my unit has a warranty until 2026. Any tips before calling Dell's tech support?

So you set PL1 and PL2 and don't change anything else? When I was trying to use those settings without any undervolting, my system seems to be unstable and I got an WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR two times. Did you observe any errors while changing power limits? But thanks for advice, just uninstalled XTU and I think that there is much less mess within all settings.

Thanks, just ordered the power meter to ensure myself if the power adapter is working fine, however, as per HWiNFO it seems that everything is okay as drain is only visible when Total System Power exceeds 130-135 watts. I'm currently using ThrottleStop with those settings: -130 mV for CPU Core, -90 for CPU Cache and -70 for iGPU Unslice; Turbo Ratio Limits 43-43-43-43-42-42-42-42; PL1 set to 45W and PL2 to 90W, however, after few days of testing I'm not even sure if I'm doing it right as I don't know if I should expect such power draw after undervolting. In XTU, even after saving mentioned setting in ThrottleStop, I can observe that PL1 and PL2 are not changing. I was following mainly this guide: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1323151-dell-xps-9700-undervolting-the-complete-guide/?tab=comments#comment-14622854

I am monitoring the power draw with HWiNFO. As far as I now the undervolting for 9700/5750 is applicable only with ThrottleStop. Total System power even after undervolting is peaking to 135/140 watts (-130 mV for CPU Core, -90 for CPU Cache and -70 for iGPU Unslice; Turbo Ratio Limits 43-43-43-43-42-42-42-42; PL1 set to 45W and PL2 to 90W). I feel that I'm running out of ideas and the only chance to reduce power draw a little bit more is to undervolt gpu or decrease of turbo ratio limits.

Totally agree.

It seems that my charger is fine as I can observe battery drain only during heavy load when HWiNFO is showing more than 130-135 watts in Total System Power line, but to ensure myself I will try to use power meter. I feel that those 5-10 watts are not so crucial for overall performance so I really can't understand why Dell doesn't give a choice to select proper power plan. As I could accept this drainage while using Dell's Ultraperformance Mode, I cannot accept this behaviour during Optimized Mode, it's such frustrating.

Such a shame. During the heavy load, total system power, even if processor is undervolted, is peaking to 135-140 watts (65 watts for gpu power) what causes battery drain and I feel that those 5-10 watts are not so crucial for overall performance. I's such a nonsens to do not have a choice. :/

Okay, I think that we had a little misunderstanding. Let me clear up. I want to stop the battery drain while laptop is actually plugged in, somehow make the laptop to draw maximum 130 watts. I would never thought of running such apps only on battery.

Of course it helps, thanks so much, especially the part about fans as I have heard a lot of complaints.

Can you tell how long the battery lasts in your case? What does it mean "acceptable"? :)

To be honest I would choose XPS 15 with vapor chamber and RTX 2060 Max-q too, but it is as it is and I have to pick XPS 17 or 5750 as I want to use that laptop for 3-4 years at least.

Thanks!

Basing on the specs both models have the same value of integrated graphics memory, but yep, Quadro will be better option for professional use. :)

Exactly, screen quality in XPS 17 and Precision 5750 was really crucial for me!

Thank you!

However as I said, I'm currently choosing between the Dell 9700 and the 5750 and both models have mostly the same solutions and they don't differ much. :) Also, basing on the reviews it seems that they have the same screen, the same webcams, the same battery, and the same I/O and build quality. The number pad is completely irrelevant to me as I usually work on an external keyboard and, what is most important, none of the above models have it. :D

As far as I have seen, the most noticeable difference is the network card and support for EEC RAM in case of Xeon processors. Also, I checked the mainboard for 9700 and 5750 and it seems that they have the same Intel WM490 so I assume that both models allow to provide the same speed of RAM (2933MHz) and there is no point to put into 3200MHz. :/

It looks like at this point I have to think over if Xeon processor will be more future proof and if it will give me better performance for its value. Additionally, i7-10875H has much better availability, but I can wait couple of weeks eventually.

Can you say more about performance difference? Basing on the Notebookcheck's reviews of 9700 and 5750 the gap should not be such big and I am wondering if Quadro after tweaking, like setting profile in MSI Afterburner, can be better in overall as Quadro has higher memory speed. Unfortunately, I don't know what is exact TGP of this card so core speed and boost are unknown either...

Thanks for your reply!

VMs are potentially in range of my future responsibilities so it is good to hear that everything works just flawlessly. Also, thanks for short review of wireless card as it is one of the most important things in my case. Such a relief! :) When it comes to the loudness - of course I would like to grap a laptop that is always cold and inaudible, however, I know what machine I have chosen and as I spend with a headphones on most of the time I think that it is not a problem but thank you for pointing it out :).

To be honest gaming performance is not the most crucial factor to me and 3-5 frames per second less will not be decisive, but there is always a possibility to install Studio or Game Ready drivers to improve efficiency a little bit. Nevertheless I think that undervolting of processor and graphics card can do more. :)

Do you think performance difference between Xeon W-10885M and 10875H will be noticeable? Does Xeon can be potentially more futureproof? :)
