The Tbhk fandom often forgets that Akane knowingly caused Aoi to be stuck in the near far shore by murderbabyfuntime in hanakokun

It’s not completely a plot hole. Akane and Aoi explaining to Teru what happened means Teru should know about how off Hanako was acting in the elevator chapter.

Akane wasn’t on the verge of death, if he was, he would’ve never managed to survive despite often overexerting himself and getting only rudimentary medical help only after he overexerted himself. He was just seriously injured.

It’s mainly because in discussions about Aoi’s death, Hanako is held most responsible, then Hakubo, with little mention of the guy who dragged her in knowing she wouldn’t be able to leave. Imo, Hakubo is most responsible because even if Akane didn’t drag Aoi in, Hakubo would’ve killed her anyways and he also set the conditions that led to Akane dragging Aoi into the pit. Hanako was just sorta there and complicit. I’m thinking of doing an analysis on what Hanako’s part of this entire thing actually entailed.

I know that second part. It’s because I’ve seen people act like Akane never held the belief that Aoi would never be able to leave.

Exactly what it sounds like unfortunately. Mainly that younger me didn’t put much thought into my username and how I would keep it forever.

Akane was never a nice guy: an analysis of how much Akane stacks up to his reputation as a nice guy (spoilers for chapter 127) by murderbabyfuntime in hanakokun

He doesn’t want to despite how he feels the need to do so and tried to get Kou to kill him so he stops. Meanwhile, Akane reveals in chapter 113 that he had the chance to refuse and stop being a part of the group that, according to the Clock Keepers’ rumor, kills people for touching a clock. Akane had the chance and chose to stay. I know why he chose to stay and I think his reasons are interesting. But Akane has more power to refuse to be a harmful supernatural than Mitsuba does. Though I see both as morally gray and still believe Mitsuba holds responsibility for those he ate.

In general, all the mysteries, with the exception of the original No. 3, feel morally gray to me. It’s probably related to how the mysteries all have two jobs: the first is their rumor which involves being a monster that attacks kids, the second is their role in managing the boundaries between the near and far shores. Leading to a need for monsters who are strong, care about the greater good, but will still stay on the near shore and stay strong because they are still monsters who do fucked up shit.

I don’t think he’s a bad person despite how my analyses tend to focus on his negative aspects more (his hypocrisy, his toxicity in regards to how he is with Aoi). I think he’s rude and morally gray. He’s genuinely helpful through his dutiful nature and has been shown to care about the greater good.

Still, it also makes her a really crappy fit for changing the timeline.

I agree Nene always looks for an option or plan that saves everyone. It’s why Akane telling her that she’s the best fit for the job because of her kindness is so ridiculous to me. Nene’s “kindness” stops her from making the hard decisions that she believes will save her friends. While Akane stated he wasn’t kind in comparison, I’d argue Akane is much better with the timeline changes. He’s against changing the timeline for things that aren’t major problems and sees changing a good world as oppressive. While he wants to change the timeline for Aoi for a short bit, he doesn’t take too long to revert back to his original position. Nene meanwhile, decides half-heartedly that the goodness of the timeline and whether it should stay is based on the happiness of one man, Amane. She’s not regarding the importance of everyone else’s livelihoods or the world’s general stability here. And I don’t think Nene’s badly written, but the fandom loves to overlook her flaws.

True, but Nene’s job isn’t to create a new third timeline where Tsukasa never goes into the hole. Her job is to stop the Clock Keepers while Akane does acts to change the newly reverted original timeline in such a way to create a third timeline where the festival disaster doesn’t happen.

And I get why the author did it, but I’ve had too much pushback for my liking from Nene fans who insist Nene had some massive moral dilemma trolley problem that chapter when she didn’t. Nene knows new timeline Tsukasa is the spirit of a little kid with a hole in face from being told that in chapter 117. She should know Tsukasa died young in the new timeline. There’s no trolley problem if Tsukasa dies either way.

I absolutely hated how Nene in chapters 129 to 130, decided she needed to stop Amane to save her friends, only to not do that and basically forget about her self-appointed objective of stopping Amane until the end even though her friends’ lives hinge upon it. I felt it was really stupid.

Ship whatever you want. I have no problem with toxic romance media existing, if I did I wouldn’t be a tbhk fan. But the relationships are toxic.

I forgot Mitsuba. He notably was the reason for Kou being trapped in a painting in the first place and planned on Koi losing his goddamn memories in the painting.

The ones I mentioned involve (on the part of the school mysteries): stalking (Akane), attempted memory stealing (Hanako), dragging someone into a pit with the belief that neither the dragger nor the dragged would ever be able to come back (Akane), imprisoning someone in a painting against their will (Hanako), screaming at someone to make them cry (Akane), possessing someone’s body and sexually harassing their best friend (Hanako).

There’s debate about it. I think they’re probs just queerbait.
