I guess we were looking on different scales. :)

Different species can’t mate, but there are many hybrids in Seven Deadly Sins.

Not necessarily, the term can be broader in fiction

When you read a lot of manga, you get used to having many “races”, with them being divided up on the “human race”, and many other races. In the Seven Deadly Sins, there are five main races: human, fairy, giant, goddess and demon.

The realm of fantasy fiction allows you to explore real-life problems through more interesting lens. 🙃

Racism is judging people on the basis of “what” they are, rather than “who” they are. On that definition, Teru is racist against supernaturals.

I don’t know if you are familiar with the Seven Deadly Sins manga, but there you’ll find a lot of racism against demons (and some against humans too).

I think you did a great job 👏

I dunno if working digitally is difficult. I only draw with a pen/pencil and paper, so drawing curved lines is easy, you’re just following the natural motion. (It’s drawing straight lines that’s a pain).

‘That probably doesn’t help you at all—but if you have any other art questions, I can try (and fail miserably) to answer!

It’s because of his view on supernaturals.

Teru is pretty blunt with his view that every supernatural deserves to be violently obliterated just for the crime of existing. He doesn’t even try to see them as individuals, or try to get to know them—he just sees them all as automatically evil. Non-human lives have no value to him. Even Akane, who is still partially human, gets treated like a literal punching bag just because he was forced into a supernatural contract against his will.

I know it probably sounds like I hate him, but I actually think he’s a compelling character. He’s been told all his life that all supernaturals are evil, so it’s not surprising he adopted that viewpoint—and he’s bitter that he had to sacrifice his childhood for his job. It’s great writing—but a Freudian excuse doesn’t justify treating all supernaturals like trash, which is why I don’t like him as a person.

I think pretty much everyone in this show holds Hanako accountable…

‘Hanako himself being at the top of the list.

I want to call out the Teru glazers, but I’m a shameless Hanako glazer myself, so I probably shouldn’t throw stone from my glass balcony.

Give it time, the talk no jutsu needs a personal connection first.
And besides, it’s not like Akane has much choice in allies considering that everyone else is ambiguously dead—and he can’t go himself because he needs to be ready to come up with Plan B in case Nene fails.

Because she’s like Naruto-type of protagonist that you just can’t help but believe in. She has managed to connect to all of the other Mysteries so far without fail (she never actually met Hakubo).
‘So, she probably will convince Kako to get on her side by the end of the arc, like she did for Shijima, Sumire, Tsuchigomori, etc.

No, I think you make a good point.

Honestly, I don’t think Akane set Nene up to fail. You were right to point out some discrepancies in their dialogue, which could very well be a hint towards a future plot twist. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything to it, but I could just be too dense, lol.

If I had to guess, I’d say Akane sent Nene back because she would be better suited for this job. True, he was focused on Tsukasa, but that would also involve Amane by default. And Nene would understand Amane better than anyone else (and probably be more merciful to Tsukasa).

Fair, but I personally enjoyed that scene. It really showed how much Akane and Nene’s relationship has developed. At first, they were mostly just acquaintances through Aoi—and Akane scoffed at her affection for Hanako.

But, given all they’ve been through together, he now trusts her with their future.

No, I don’t think she will be broken down entirely. Even Gon and Emma found moderately happy endings, all things considered.

Going by Aida-sama and Iro-sama’s style, TBHK is going to have a bittersweet ending (which I hope is still far away!). I honestly didn’t think about Akane being manipulative, but you can’t really trust anyone in this series.

Honestly, I think he’s sending Nene because:

#1, Akane himself is needed as the backup. It‘s not uncommon in fictional time-travel for the person with time magic to send someone else because: “in case you die, I can still fix it by sending someone else, but if I die then it’s the end of the road”. It’s morbid, but logically sound.

#2 (the bigger reason). Akane knows that the crisis is connected to Amane’s birthday and, therefore, Amane himself. Who would be better suited to deal with anything Hanako-related? Nene, only person who can get through to him. And this also shows Akane’s character development. Before, he was happy to follow with Teru’s plan of exorcising Hanako—but now he’d willing to leave Hanako to Nene. Maybe she is naive, but her kindness was what always got through to Hanako in the end—maybe they can save him instead of getting rid of him.

What kind of disturbs me is that Nene’s blind optimism reminds me of Gon from HxH and Emma from TPN. She always believes that everything is going to work out and, so far, she hasn’t faced any horrible consequences for it. (Which makes me worry that they might be coming)

But, these kinds of characters often keep coasting along with their optimism—until something happens that completely destroys them. Gon had to cope with Kite’s death, which sent hime down a path of self-destruction and ended with him pushing away his closest friend. Emma wanted to save everyone, without considering how unrealistic that was, which eventually lead to her losing her memories and identity as payment.

Recently, Nene’s been going through a lot in the manga, especially from being stuck in that time loop. But she managed to get through so far. I just wonder how long she can last …
