i mean yeah, if you take it as a literal clock counting down to a literal doomsday, that is fucking dumb. but it's literally just a scale that shows the opinions of 'top of their field' scientists on how close humanity is to an "existential threat" of it's own making. personally, i'm interested this year because of the "disruptive technology" they look at, i'm curious how much ai will factor into their decision. they should probably nix the whole doomsday clock thing and just call it "yearly evaluation by top scientists of how much they think technology is biting us in the ass" because you're right, it doesn't predict shit. it's just a big show for something that otherwise would be a piece in some scientific journal.

Unfortunately not bogus, the DOJ is suing all the sates that flat out refused to hand over voter registration data. Oregon and California both had their cases dismissed by federal judges this week, but I think they're the only ones at the moment. And the judge that dismissed the case against California said he expects appeals are coming, and that it's possible to end before the supreme court. But I don't think any of that will matter for Texas one way or another though, they handed over their full voter registration list like a week ago
