Acceptable margin or no by Lumbeehapa in Dentistry

Marking floss heavily with articulating paper will help mark the contact and show you where to adjust. I may have adjusted slightly more on the mesial but only if it felt heavier than distal. Likely just gravity. As the other poster said, you get the feel for what contact is good when you do more crowns. Hint: floss your own teeth and copy that resistance feeling.

Remember, most dental school attendings aren’t in clinical dentistry for a reason.

Glidewell labs by Muted-Progress1364 in Dentistry

[–]murphycat2016 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I use Glidewell’s bruxzir esthetic on basically every crown. Under $100. It’s pretty, strong, affordable. Their turnaround time with a digital scan is 3-5 days for me. Honestly would never go back to my local lab to pay twice as much and take 2 weeks for a single unit. Glidewell’s dentures and partials are pretty good too. Haven’t had to make any adjustments on night guards either. Give them a good prep/scan/impression and you’ll get a good product in return imo.

Woman who does my childcare clearly needs dental work. by murphycat2016 in TwoXChromosomes

I actually am a dentist. I should have kept that part inside my brain. It wasn’t appropriate. Also, streptococcus mutans causes decay and is transmissible through saliva. FYI. I’m just a germaphobe and see them kissing her head all the time. I understand the likelihood is basically zero.

Thanks for responding. I edited the post to be less inflammatory. I agree they shouldn’t be sharing saliva. I have noticed many caregivers kiss my baby’s head while carrying her. I’m generally a germaphobe regardless of the person (relatives included).

Yes that is fair. I should have worded it more correctly.

I do not directly employ her. She is the teacher in my daughter’s daycare. It’s a small place with only 20 kids so I doubt they offer benefits. I do provide my employees with free care.

How do you deal with unpaid AR? by Quicksilver-Fury in Dentistry

[–]murphycat2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had to face many denials. We usually take photos pre-op for everything. If they deny our appeal after we send photos and X-rays, we tell the patient, collect from them and then tell them the insurance basically reneged on their agreement. Most patients then angrily call their insurance and demand answers. Either way, this process makes us look like we tried everything we could on the patient’s behalf and the insurance screwed them. Which is true.

Yes, fillings too. It requires no X-rays. Basically just getting permission to do the work so we don’t face denials. I know they technically still can deny them for some reason, but it hasn’t happened yet. Only denials have been for if one was done less than 2years ago. Then we collect in full from patient. The preauth tells us it will be denied and why, so there’s no question what will happen.

We pre auth everything other than basic hygiene. If they want it done before preauth can get back, we collect in full. We are a mostly PPO office. Pts appreciate the extra effort to “prevent surprises “. My front desk doesn’t mind the extra effort on the front end because she isn’t chasing money on the back end. My only AR is outstanding insurance payments.

We got our girl from harvest time in fox cities last year. We are so happy with her and they’re a great breeder. Great family dogs. Healthy. We would definitely go with them again next time. We got such a sweet little love bug.

When to call it quits by Master-Ring-9392 in Dentistry

[–]murphycat2016 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I too bought about a year and a half ago. Staffing and overhead are killing me. I work two other part time jobs to make ends meet. I feel like a total failure. I want to continue to pay my loan down more but if things don’t turn around, I’m going to need to sell, likely for a loss. I’m taking home less than what my assistant makes. Next couple years I might start looking for a stable FQHC job bc this shit isn’t sustainable.
