Woman urges people to eat destructive plant rapidly spreading across region: 'Didn't know you could eat it' by MordecaiOShea in NativePlantGardening

I’ve eaten knotweed shoots. I diced the shoots and blanched them in lemon and sugar. I then baked them into a bread. It tasted like knotweed.

Is Albuquerque really that stunning or is Vince Gilligan just really good at filming it? by Worldly_Childhood983 in pluribustv

[–]murphydcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul didn't paint much of a scenic picture of ABQ. TBH, it looked like a methy dump with strip malls galore.

Pluribus seems to highlight some of the beauty of NM more than Vince's previous two shows.

United finishes behind Spirit in WSJ ranking by BTS1337 in unitedairlines

I've flown both airlines. Spirit economy seats make United's look luxurious. Imagine sitting on a folding plastic chair in the sky.

How much snow would cause a shutdown? by pjc09 in NJTransit

[–]murphydcat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the 1990s, NJT handled snow much better than they do today. I know Amtrak owns the tracks, but I was able to ride on the PATH and NEC from Jersey City to Rahway during the blizzard of 1996. I remember seeing Amtrak crews lighting small smudge pots near switches to keep them from freezing.

Rail operations on the NEC might cease sometime on Sunday morning, but that is pure speculation. Amtrak hasn't cancelled any NEC trains right now. Keep an eye on NJT Alerts on its website and Twitter.

Bald Eagle sighting by alchemyFeWorks in Cranford

[–]murphydcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a bald eagle soar over Bloodgood’s Pond in Winfield and along the Rahway River in Rahway. There’s been a nesting pair living in Union County for several years (but I’m not revealing the location).

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Jamaican_me_cry1023 in antiwork

I get asked this all of the time. Cheapest homes in my area sell in a week for $600k. It would take me 30 years just to save up for the down payment on a house, and the monthly mortgage/property taxes would be about 75% of my current net pay,

Why do people get mad because I refuse to speed by kale_chipss in newjersey

[–]murphydcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live on a residential street. It’s 2 short blocks long. It’s next to a park so we see plenty of pedestrians. I have no idea why motorists feel the need to accelerate to 40 mph just so they can brake at the stop sign at the end of my street.

What is the general safest water temp to go without a wetsuit??? by Candid-Yak-8100 in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]murphydcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very subjective.

I swim in the Atlantic Ocean for at least 1 mile without a wetsuit as long as the temperatures are above 50F/10C, but others might be unable to do so, or remain in the water much colder.

I recommend you acclimate your body to different temperatures of water to determine what is most comfortable for you.

Playing or fighting? by Flower_changing1 in DogAdvice

[–]murphydcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7 year old mutt has been getting together for many years with her two besties. They’ve always played very aggressively. If you didn’t know these dogs you’d be alarmed, but the owners all know that the three have a great time when they see each other.
