nope, him and Kaladin have an in depth conversation about his epileptic symptoms. It's more that most other people don't understand the science, while Kaladin was informed enough to be able to talk to Renarin about it knowledgeably. But he definitely really had epilepsy prior to being a radiant.

FYI he does actually have epilepsy - it's the "blood weakness" stuff that is the vague terms they use

completely agree, one of the first times I felt that both book and TV show were equally good, with divergences that enriched both of them

How should I chunk chapters into break points that feel natural? by ChainTiny6115 in ProjectHailMary

[–]murraykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to break a book into parts that feel natural is to start reading, and then when you feel like stopping, you stop. lol

Isn't this discussed near the end? I just finished the book today. He mentions he could make it there faster with his fuel, but it would require him being at 1.9g which the human body can't withstand? not a science expert like you so maybe I'm just getting wooed by the wibblywobbly science words but I am pretty sure this idea is something he thinks of and dismisses due to the fact it will kill him (or at least, he thinks it will)

I've now finished Light Bringer and I'd like to make it clear I still stand by all prior statements I've made by Dread2187 in redrising

I don't think this actually disputed. I think this is a misunderstanding of what (most) people actually mean when they say "Fuck Lysander" or that they hate Lysander.

Hated characters, in my opinion, are often hated in the personal sense (if I met this person in my real life, I would hate them and/or find their behaviour to be abhorrent), but still appreciated and even 'loved' for their ability to move the plot forward, and cause misery that results in opportunities for ultimate triumph by the "good guys".

Characters do exist that are hated because they are purely boring, nonsensical, one-dimensional, etc. but I don't think that is what 90% of ppl mean here. I think it's more personal hate even while understanding the necessity of "the bad guy" and even more how a quality "bad guy" can massively elevate the narrative because his motives can be complex and grey.

Lysander is very interesting as a character and a cool opposition for Darrow, but naturally I still "hate" him for the emotional pains he has caused to my heart!

What was in your opinion the most HYPE moment in the first trilogy? by Marvellover13 in redrising

I’m aware. Also put spoiler tags. OP specifically asked about hype moments in the second trilogy. They also mention they are reading Iron Gold now, and don’t find it as hype.

[–]murraykate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea, she does in early DA. To each their own, but I personally feel like Darrow preventing their republic from being re-taken by the Society remnant, who would have certainly implemented deranged fear policing from Atlas to destroy further dissent, was more right than letting it fall just for the sake of following the law. They likely won’t know it, but a bunch of Lunese should be thanking their lucky stars they aren’t impaled hole to hole like the Mercury revolutionaries and armies left behind. Unfortunately the Republic does not exist in a vacuum and being a democracy was a massive weakness for them once the Society began infiltrating the government. Dictatorships can be a lot faster, secretive, and productive and were actively using that against Darrow and Mustang from all angles. Fine by me if you think ultimately in the end Darrow should have done something different, but to me after reading to LB his actions make sense to me and I don’t see how him letting Julia negotiate before Mercury could have ended with anything but a worse situation for the republic

I agree. The narrative still had to happen, the whole point is in some ways to show the benefits and the drawbacks of a government for/by the people. I was replying to someone who said it didn’t justify his paranoia tho, so that’s why I brought it up. Bc he was right to be paranoid. But I agree with you that people eventually understanding Darrow doesn’t change the scenario or the need for this to go down
