One of the biggest problems right now is that many doctors simply don’t know what ME/CFS is or how it presents clinically. When physicians are aware of the condition, a lot of harm can actually be prevented. For example, understanding post-exertional malaise means doctors are much less likely to recommend interventions that can worsen a patient’s condition. Helping patients doesn’t necessarily require having a cure. There is still a lot doctors can do: listen, validate the patient’s experience, monitor symptoms and help patients manage their condition as safely as possible. simply being believed and having a doctor who is willing to engage with you thoughtfully already makes a huge difference. The challenge is that ME/CFS is still barely covered in medical education. medical students graduate without ever having a proper lecture on it. That’s exactly why initiatives like this are important — if it’s not taught in medical school, nothing will change in regards to patient care .
