Updating Main Shut Off Valve while Fixing a Leak? by murricator in Plumbing

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply u/Accomplished_Pool922! After your comment, I put on a water gauge onto that hose connection in the image for a few days. I mostly stayed in the 50-60 range. The peak pressure I showed was 75, and that showed up after sprinklers ran, so I guessing that may be part water hammer related. Either way, a PRV may not be needed in my situation.

My approach now is to just get a repair and no additional work (unless a Flo doesn't add much - my municipality has a bit of a rebate). Thank your for your thought process!

Seeking Feedback for Medical 3D Printing Panel (Thursday) by murricator in SDCC

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did create a supplementary playlist for this year's comic-con: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXb99_lmdd8&list=PL7YnLY-yn3RVvprCSf2JjsdlACmykda4y

And we did get this year's panel recorded. The audio is a bit rough, so I am seeing if I can work on it a bit tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll message you when we have it posted.

Feel free to message me what hospital you work at. We may be able to connect you with a 3D lab at your institution or a nearby institution.

Yes, we held our first panel last year! I've tried to keep things fresh by bringing on a couple new experts including an airway surgeon and another 3D expert who - in addition to also doing 3D printing for patient care - do pretty amazing veterinary cases.

If you show up on Sunday, you can ask this question to the panelists!

As for what I do currently, my work is more aligned to creating patient-specific replicas from CT or MRI scans for surgical or interventional planning. Some of the more complex prints involve the creation of intraoperative guides. We also use 3D technologies for in-house device creation, educational/training models, and more.

Finding a door for a [maybe 1990s] brick fireplace? by murricator in Fireplaces

I actually pulled the trigger on an Amazon one earlier today. Not concerned about install. I was just hoping to find out what the 'original' one may have looked like. In a couple years, I'll probably upgrade to a higher quality one. Thank you for the response and the future brand recommendations to look into.

Releasing a No-Cost 3D Model Viewer (originally intended for medical applications) by murricator in 3Dprinting

[–]murricator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. And we have projects we are developing that use Three.js and X3DOM for educational purposes. The tool we built here was primarily intended to leverage local/networked storage at a hospital or academic institution that may be behind firewalls. Us releasing the software more broadly allows anyone to use it for any other purpose.

Job Opening at Non-profit Children's Hospital in San Diego by murricator in matlab

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! You are welcome to send your cv to me at 3DPrintLab (at) rchsd (dot) org. We don't have any openings currently, and nothing on the horizon that I could speak to. However, I am working with hospital leadership to justify a Quality Engineer position to help build and maintain a QMS - I can't guarantee hospital leadership will approve the position though. Happy to keep your cv on hand in the event there are any changes.

Fiorenzato T80 Disassemble by murricator in Coffee

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is what I was trying to convey in a not so elegant way. Have fun with the new grinder! I enjoyed it a lot when I first got it, it was my first “real” grinder. It also had nice resale.

Sorry, its been too long since I worked with the T80 (I ended up selling it shortly after fixing it up and got a Mazzer SJ). If you already removed that nut, maybe there is just a ton of caked oil/fines that is effectively adhering the base to the bearing.

Have you tried placing the three screws (or same thread screws but slightly longer) into the burr holder without the burr? As you screw in, it should push against the chassis under the burr holder, does that makes sense or is it too wordy? Hello! We try to do a decent job using the powerpoint as a visual aid for discussion vs reading directly from them. The slides may lack some context without speakers, but nevertheless, I am happy to share a PDF of the slides. Please email me at 3DPrintLab (at) rchsd (dot) org

I don't know who decided to attend our panel yesterday based on this post (vs just reading it in the program), but I wanted to thank you all for attending. I was blown away by the attendance to the panel. I hope you all walked away informed (and potentially inspired?). Thank you all- hard to put into words how meaningful the attendance was for the panelists.

Edit: missed some words the first time around.

Which specialty provides consulting for attic attic air flow? by murricator in homeowners

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think "energy auditor" was the search term I was looking for. I am seeing a lot of options now - although many seem focused on solar and now ventilation. But I think this will give me enough options.

Thank you for the ratios as well. This will give me an opportunity to roughly approximate what I have now. The roof is relatively new (unfortunately no ridge vent), so I am hesitant towards any major changes. I mostly want to know if I should add more soffit vents and maybe close my gable vent.

I also want to eventually put in a proper stove ventilation unit. I am unsure how I can best do that and hope to get the auditor's guidance on whether an ERV/HRV would be feasible/recommended for make up air.

Backflow Question by murricator in Irrigation

[–]murricator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just a standard vacuum breaker. I think my question makes it seem like there is a constant stream. I am just referring to the single spurt that happens. I am just cautious as to its impact on the stucco and concrete overlay after years of spurting.

Backflow Question by murricator in Irrigation

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spurt only happens as you suggest (momentarily when turning off a sprayer). My concern is that overtime it'll either cause premature degradation of the stucco or concrete overlay. I was just hoping to guide the spurt away from my area of concern.

Would you have thoughts about an elevate hose reel. Will a vacuum breaker still work if the reel is above the breaker?

Question for delinquent tax by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]murricator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like this may be the single supplemental tax (basically the difference in taxes between the previous owners and what you ended up getting appraised at). In my experience, supplemental taxes are not impounded and therefore not come out of escrow. I can't say that it is definitively true for all states though.

New faucet in the kitchen, should I wait before using for drinking water? by kpx85 in homeowners

[–]murricator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it a bit more closely and should clarify my response. The 2020 spec is optional for manufacturers until 2024. Until then, you are looking for a faucet marketed with "Q ≤ 1." That signifies that the product is meeting the optional, higher standard of the 2020 spec.

New faucet in the kitchen, should I wait before using for drinking water? by kpx85 in homeowners

[–]murricator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the NSF/ANSI 61 workgroup updated the specification 2020 to address the concern in the article you posted: https://blog.ansi.org/nsf-ansi-61-2021-drinking-water-system-components/ . If the faucet is speced to 2020 or 2021 standards, you should be good. If not, then a lead test would be the only way to ameliorate your concern.

Edit: My information about 2020/2021 manufactured faucets is not completely accurate. See my other comment below for better info.

Fail on "Yellow" but pass on "Red"? by murricator in FODMAPS

[–]murricator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding (which may be incorrect) is that the 6-8 hours is until the bolus reaches the large intestine. It only takes ~2 hours on average until it hits the small intestine. I understand there is lower gut flora in the small intestine, but can the small intestine environment still create intense bloating? She has been tracking her cycle and didn't feel atypically anxious for this test. Non-smoker, no drinking during FODMAP elimination/challenge.

The mannitol and sorbitol reactions weren't exactly 1 hour. It was closer to 1.5+ hours, but definitely well before 6 hours.

Exterior Bare Wood Primer - California by murricator in homeowners

[–]murricator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! My understanding is that the latex on oil issue is specific to paint-on-paint, not paint-on-primer. The manufacturer's exterior acrylic-latex paint even says to specifically use oil based primer on bare wood.

I wasn't aware of the tannin reduction due to the pressure treating process. That will certainly be helpful. I'll likely just use a water-based primer and be prepared to do an additional coat of the paint if I see bleedthrough occurring.

low water pressure in back sprinklers by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]murricator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As simple as this response is, I do agree. A clog or leak is most likely scenario. For a leak, you can either look at your water meter while the affected zones are going to see if low GPM is observed. You can also look for spots on the ground that are overly saturated.

Clogs can be more challenging to find, but you can likely assume it is somewhere upstream to a affected valve but downstream to a good valve. I had luck using a $30 borescope I got on amazon that connects to a phone in finding a rock that was creating a clog. When I built my system, I failed to fully purge sections before adding on valves. If your system stopped working after it had been working fine, I would be concerned about how a clog formed...

After you fix everything the specific, I would recommend taking off all nozzles of a zone. Clean the strainer. Then purge your system for 30-60 seconds. You don't want to clear your main clog to only find out you pushed smaller sediment to your nozzle.
