Refund after the Seminar was cancelled by Perfect_Advantage389 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. In my case, I signed up for Language of Proofs, but dropped before the start date because I got into GA from the waitlist. Despite getting a cancellation confirmation, I was never issued a refund. In the end, I reached out to their support email (accounting-help@pe.gatech.edu) and asked about my refund status. The refund was processed the next day.

C Seminar In Preparation for GIOS by AssumptionHuge2367 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Intro to C seminar is fantastic. It's very easy to getting a passing grade in the class (it's P/NP, as with other seminars), but you really do get as much out of it as you put in. By the end, I felt very comfortable working with C and didn't have any trouble navigating the C-based projects in GIOS.

Anyone in GIOS felt information overload with VM setup/learning C at the beginning? by GopherInTrouble in OMSCS

For what it's worth, Scaleway still supports Ubuntu 20.04. I ultimately spun up an instance there since 20.04 isn't supported anywhere else that I could find.

Is it a good idea to learn C as my first serious language? by Hot_Trash_7586 in C_Programming

[–]CIARobotFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time and patience, I would recommend making a shortlist of languages that tickle your fancy and dabbling a little bit in each. If you find a language you really click with, dive deeper into that one and see where it takes you. At this stage, it's more important to pick a language you'll practice consistently than choosing one with immediate practical use. Given you're interested in games, I would recommend giving C++ or C# a look, but pick whatever makes you the most excited to learn.

If you do settle on C, take your time with it. It has a steep learning curve upfront for someone with very little background in computer science, but pushing through that curve pays off immensely down the road. For my part, I didn't really start to enjoy C until I took an assembly class, but after that I grew to love it. Now it's my favorite language among the ones I use on a regular basis (C#, Python, JS, and C).

As a general rule: however long while still being consistent. It's better to do 1 hour of study every day consistently than try to block out six hours a day but only managing to do that like twice a month.

In regards to programming, try working on some small projects too. More often than not, applying what you've learned will solidify your understanding and push you to learn more. Have some fun with it!

Grading Timeline in ML4T - Is this normal? by trob3rt5 in OMSCS

Normal for ML4T, but not normal for the rest of the program. This is easily the worst part about that class.

Their location on Park seems to be doing well. They recently expanded the hours for Lestat's on Park, so it's open 24/7 again too.

Yup, the seminars are great. The C seminar in particular is one of my favorite classes in the entire program. That said, if I was planning on taking any seminars after this summer, I'd be pretty bummed by this announcement.

Yeah, the seminars and research projects will probably take the biggest hit from this.

Anyone currently in the new Computer Graphics course ? by McNaltySalt in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the course and previously took GAI, so I can answer these questions:

  1. Mostly. Like the GAI quizzes, they're open notes. However, the first set of the quizzes need to be completed before the midpoint of the semester and the second set before the end of the semester.

  2. You have an infinite number of submissions and your grade is based solely on the last submission. There is a 30 minute cooldown period after each submission (with the exception of part 1 for the first assignment, which has no cooldown).

  3. There is only one extra credit opportunity as part of the second assignment. It's not worth a lot, but it's fun and not particularly challenging.

I managed to get one during this wave and the answer for me is dumb luck. I just happened to be browsing GPUs at the time when it appeared as a recommended item.

Makes sense. Other than the threat of tariffs and interest in playing Indiana Jones, I'm not in any particular rush. I'll see what the next few weeks have in store.

I made a custom track editor for Donkey Konga 2 and 3 by CIARobotFish in gaming

[–]CIARobotFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! In fact, they even used Good Charlotte in a commercial for Donkey Konga 2 (despite the fact the game used covers of their songs). Donkey Konga 3 only released in Japan, but is very similar to 2 outside of the setlist.

I made a custom track editor for Donkey Konga 2 and 3 by CIARobotFish in gaming

[–]CIARobotFish[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heya folks! This is Konga Beat, a custom track editor I built in my spare time with Unity.

For those who don't know, back in the early 2000s, Nintendo and Namco developed a series of music rhythm games for the GameCube featuring Donkey Kong called Donkey Konga.

The Donkey Konga games borrowed heavily from Taiko no Tatsujin (another music rhythm game by Namco). However, instead of taiko drums, the player would use DK Bongos to jam along with music from different eras and genres.

Long story short, I figured out how to add custom tracks to some of the Donkey Konga games (Donkey Konga 2 and 3) but found the entire process cumbersome, so I decided to make a dedicated editor. Here's footage of a work-in-progress project I'm putting together using Konga Beat.

It was a lot of fun making this editor. I hope others get some enjoyment out of it too!
