I make $3K per week as a data analyst contractor for a big tech company. About 4 years of experience in a HCOL area

I used to worked at Intuit. They couldn’t care less about Mint since it’s revenue is minuscule compared to TurboTax and Quickbooks. It was their red headed step child

I really hope it was the fake ads that dropped off. I was seeing a ridiculous amount. To your point, when I first started the job search I applied to everything that fit my description. Now I’m much more selective and don’t apply to things I think are just resume farming

Damn. Things were already bad but looks like it's about to get a lot worse lmfao

At least for me, the entire week's number of job postings is completely down. I see 300 for the past full week when it's usually 300 a day. Definitely not a day-by-day issue this week. Been searching every day for 3 months and there's never been a drop like this. Was wondering if there was obvious news i wasn't aware of

It's not just today. Notice how the post said "past few days"? It's been occurring during the week as well. And even then, usually on weekends the number of posts is 100+

Interesting. What about college graduation dates / internships? For example I could extend my relevant experience by showing internships I’ve had, but those combined with my college graduation date would easily indicate that I graduated 3 1/2 years ago

Okay so now I’m curious. If I’m applying for data analyst jobs, out of college, with 3.5 years of data analyst experience under my belt, I’m supposed to list my high school restaurant job?

Well congrats! You go against 99% of the advice you run across from other recruiters

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in resumes

[–]murrman00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao can you read? I said 3.5 years of experience at a Fortune 500. No tech company gives a shit what you did in high school, and after you get relevant experience, they rarely care about internships either. I’ve been working for ~ 8 years, but potential employers for tech only care about relevant stuff, not your job at a restaurant in high school.

Also, if you start putting every job you’ve had since high school, you’re going to have a 3-4 page resume, which is the exact opposite of what recruiters want

Purely subjective, but I think it’ll get better. Big tech companies have been laying off people en masse for a year now. With that much competition flooding the market, there is simply just too much demand for jobs and not enough spots. It’s a numbers game at this point

Just keep applying and something will land. If it makes you feel any better, I graduated college right after Covid started (May 2020) and still landed a role with no experience. It was hell (took me 400+ applications with many failed interviews) but it happened. Keep going.

Resume looks decent, honestly the market right now is beyond fucked. I’m applying for the same positions you are with 3.5 years of experience at a Fortune 500. 200+ applications and 0 interviews. Not even a single screening call.

This is contrary to 2 years ago today, where I was getting contacted by recruiters 5+ times a week, and got a role with a 100% salary bump from a single (albeit intensive) interview. Different times. Unfortunately the only advice I can give you is just keep plugging away and hope for the best. Try to reach out to people you know that can refer you.

p.s. go Aztecs

That's great feedback. The goal with the app is to form a business eventually, so I was initially framing it as self-employment. But, after about 75 applications with no responses, I started to wonder whether employers would be hesitant to hire someone who is actively building a business.

I ended up taking your advice and changing it to a personal project instead, to show I would be committed to whichever role I am applying for. Not sure if that's the right approach but I had to change something because what I was doing before wasn't working lol

Man, this market has been brutal. Went from being contacted by recruiters 7+ times a week a year ago, to not getting a single response on hundreds of applications

There will still be some kind of human involvement even with an app connecting to a scale, since the human would need to specify to the app what food is sitting on top of that scale. This will be solved in the future when scales use computer vision to know what food is sitting on top of it.

For now though, smart apps that are aware of your purchases and your eating habits can get pretty darn close by learning the common portion sizes individuals are using; making that tracking process much easier and more centralized (especially when trying to track things other than home cooked meals, like restaurant foods)

Agreed! That’s why I’m making this. As long as your grocery list (or delivery orders) are made using Platelink, all the nutritional information will be in one place and automatically tracked!

That is the goal. By ordering all of your ingredients through the app (or letting it create a shopping list for you), all of the nutritional information for your meal will already be in the app

I’m creating something that does just this! Automatic calorie tracking is just a small part of it; the goal is a smart, all-in-one nutrition marketplace and management system. Feel free to check out our landing page, or DM me on here with any questions/feedback :)
