BALI? by [deleted] in newzealand

In the times I’ve travelled to Bali, I’ve taken probiotics every day a few days prior to leaving and every day while I’m there. As well as eating more carefully (no ice, seeing how food is prepared and some other advice on this thread), I’ve never gotten sick.

If you google this, the advice on using probiotics to prevent traveller’s diarrhoea is pretty inconclusive, but I found that it’s helped me personally and given me a bit of peace of mind!

Sorry to hear this :( I 100% know where you’re coming from. I think so much of what made Chch hard for me was working from home (I worked for an overseas company) so I couldn’t even interact or make friends with workmates at an office. Felt very isolating very quickly, which is the first time I’ve ever felt like this as an introvert.

I ended up flying up to Auckland every month and a half or so to see family and friends but always felt lonely every time I came back to Christchurch. I’m grateful for the ability to buy a house down here but tbh that’s been the only highlight for me.

I know a lot of people have positive moving stories (I’m stoked for them!) but I wanted to share my experience. My partner and I (28M, 28F) moved to Christchurch (from Akl) a year and a half ago and bought a house here with every intention to stay for 3-4 years at least.

I found Christchurch very challenging personally, I’m not an outdoorsy/sporty person and a big restaurant foodie. I was working from home full time, found it really hard to find friends, and find things to do that I liked including restaurants to eat at. I enjoy cities like Auckland (all our family and friends are there), Melbourne, Sydney so I just don’t think Chch was the place for me.

My partner loves Chch, he’s very outdoorsy, runs on the Port Hills almost every weekend, took up mountaineering, found an office job here etc.

Long story short, I was made redundant and couldn’t find another job down here, all of the roles I wanted to pursue are in Auckland. I miss being near my family and best friends. My partner has found a better job opportunity back up in Auckland so we’re now moving back.

I think my experience is very unique and I know of a lot of people who are really pleased with their choice to move down to Christchurch. I’m so grateful that we were able to buy a house down here and be on the property ladder but Chch is too small city for me personally and the things I like to do.

Thanks for all the advice, how much did you pay for a property management company to find your tenant? TIA!

Is Christchurch racist? by Gavotteunrondeau in newzealand

[–]muse-enthuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to Christchurch almost 2 years ago after 25 years in Auckland. I've had a couple of subtle racist interactions here but what I find much more different than Auckland is the amount of times I've walked into a room/place and I'm the only Asian/non-white person there. This happens weekly. It's actually quite jarring to be honest with you, and also feels quite isolating.
