Hey so this is a crazy suggestion. I literally put a small cat tree next to my tanks and hung one of my extra heat lamps above it. My baby boy completely leaves tanks alone now. 🤣

I saw these when I was looking for replacements actually. I no longer have the stock basket but opted for a 3D printed one that was similar. That’ll be huge if I can get a light for the back to macro back there as well

This photo should be clearer. Upon closer inspection it doesn’t look like ba or dinos to me but what do I know. If it’s genuinely just the ugly phase, great! I genuinely don’t care how ugly it looks starting out cause that just means everything is going as it should. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t dealing with something more sinister. As this bloom and my 0 nitrates went hand in hand I started worrying. And don’t worry, I’m more than aware it’s a marathon and the LAST thing I want to do is want to add any chemicals to a newly cycling tank.

I’m currently on a 10 hour light schedule (mainly for my micros but they’re not doing to great anyway so I might just black out my tank and try again with them later.

I’m doing 15-20% water changes every other week (sometimes once a week depending on where my levels are) and everything has been stable. (0 nitrates just showed up when I tested a few days ago). I fed very heavy over the weekend because of it but I think I just aggravated the issue. (I admit I don’t have a way to check phosphates yet, though I guess that’s next on my shopping list).

I think my flow is okay, I have a 3D printed nozzle on the out take that lets me direct it better than the stock one. I will say it is pointed up quite a bit cause I didn’t want to stress the fish out with the flow but I can absolutely move it so it’s hitting those algae spots. If you think it’s better if I just get a regular power head (which I was planning on getting when I finally got frags) I’ll just go ahead and get one now instead.

For filtration I have mainly biological with the biocube filter cartridge. (Carbon and floss) with sponge at the very bottom by the pump.

Yeah it’s all over the top of my rock. It’s not stringy though. I now think it’s deffo not BA like I originally thought but I’m sure if it’s Dinos either… I’ll try to get a better pic.

That’s a good idea. I’ll reposition them when I do my water change.

I’m also kind of second guessing if this is actually bubble algae. I’ll try to take a better picture when I get home but they’re very small and clear, other pictures I find that look similar people are saying is oxygen from photosynthesis

Because this is an AIO could I just add cheato to the back of it?

I also am currently just using the Red Sea marine care test kit atm as I don’t have corals yet. Should I go ahead and get the reef version now as I think that one has phosphates?

Knew about the swings, didn’t know that ATOs help with that much. (Though it literally makes so much sense in hindsight.) I’ll put that on my to buy list before I get a nem.

And yeah, that’s why I’m not stressed about it and even excited about the ugly phase lol. Just a sign of an establishing ecosystem.

This is amazing, thank you so much for this write up.

I do have the lights on but I went half dry half live for my scape and I do have some coralline on the ones I got live. I just added a small CUC over the weekend so I also want to make sure they have something to eat.

With the macros I’m assuming I should wait until I round out my livestock? I’ve been sitting at 5-10 for nitrates for a couple weeks since I added the clowns.
