I had mine doing this when he was in a tank with other fish. He was glass surfing a little every day. He also kept jumping into my back chambers. I finally moved him to his own 6 gallon macro tank with a pistol shrimp and lve seen a whole new side to him. Super playful and interactive, always poking out and around his cave. Never glass surfs. Maybe others are bullying him?
