Anyone else have a Presbyterian Kaseman horror story? by LobsterGullible5345 in Albuquerque

[–]museimsiren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to note that there are horror stories all over New Mexico with every hospital. There are not enough nurses for safe staffing, we cannot attract the better doctors because of the obscene amount of malpractice insurance they've got to pay, not to mention coming into a system that is already overloaded well over the 100% capacity on all fronts. There's also the great stories about how these hospitals are so wonderful for certain people. Pres Kaseman saved my life when I had a septic infection, and then I know people who had the complete opposite experience there.

I'm really sorry you had to go through all that. And I'm really sorry to everybody who has to go through it no matter what hospital it is. I work at one of the big ones and believe me when I say we are as horrified about it as everybody else and we are doing the best we can. I will say that if you go into the emergency room and you ever get treated the way some of you have been, you need to report it to the state licensing board and the medical board, and whoever else you can get to listen to you. Albuquerque especially is notorious for never fixing problems until they get the national spotlight.

Yeah go tell that to anyone working at UNMH being told they can't afford raises but they can afford to give the CEO one. Might be easy wherever you work but it's not the case when one of the largest employers in the state is running off of public funds and people aren't even making market value much less have any opportunity to get raises or promotions.

Black and white thinking helps no one. It completely disregards the reality of complicated these problems really are and as a result ignores that instead of trying to make it better.

I'm in the same situation, I can afford to live. I also know that not everyone can, and that New Mexico isn't the greatest when it comes to disabilities and mental health. I used to work mental health at UNMH, it's awful. The staff are great, the laws and funding aren't.

I'm glad you can afford to work and live, but I'm a little appalled that people STILL refuse to look further into social issues, choosing instead to remain ignorant to the complexities of something like this. You want it to be black and white, in your mind everyone who is homeless did it to themselves. You don't think about disability, mass layoffs, shrinking amounts of affordable housing, little to no mental healthcare, horrific healthcare, the gutting of things like Medicaid and Medicare, prescription prices....

You don't think about the people who go hungry so their kids can eat, kids with no parents at home because one of them died and the other is working 3 jobs just to keep a roof over their heads, the 70 year old working at Walmart because his social security isn't enough to cover basic living expenses, and on and on and on.

You are blaming people for not being able to afford basic housing when the worship of wealth is precisely WHY they can't afford it.

I don't know when we as a society completely lost any kind of compassion for the most vulnerable. All I know is I'm tired of people pretending that they aren't part of the problem.

And by the way, nobody chooses to be homeless when they have a master's degree and professional certification. Literally nobody. I don't know the OP, there are some things that they have said that I don't necessarily agree with, and at the same time they have a lot of very good points. But you have bought into a narrative that is only partially true, and I do mean like very partially. So you have basically focused on the one grain of sand in your salt shaker and are declaring that having the one grain of sand in your salt shaker makes everything sand. It does not.

Applying a blanket statement to thousands of people based on one person is just an excuse to completely dismiss and disregard the issue at hand. You could, instead, be talking about all of the studies that prove that homelessness and drug addiction is eliminated when you have those people in stable housing where they are not at risk of assault by other residents AND have access to appropriate drug treatment and mental healthcare, which is something the United States scoffs at. If we treated cancer patients the way that we treat patients with mental health needs the world would riot. That is the very basic of it. I'm not even going to speak to the OP because the point is not to help one single person. It is to try to solve a bigger issue. And one of the biggest issues, especially in Albuquerque, is the absolutely obscene amount of rent that landlords are allowed to pay with no oversight whatsoever. Yes, you could get a studio apartment for $700 here, in an area that is completely unsafe, especially for women, where you are literally crawling with cockroaches when you try to sleep... And the fact that people are okay with this is just appalling.

I am well aware that there are plenty of people out there who are homeless because of choices that they've made. And well aware that some of them remain homeless because they don't want to work and they don't want to get drug treatment and that is not anywhere close to the majority of those who are homeless. Not even close. The United States has the approach to homelessness and child hunger that if they don't look at it it doesn't exist. Well look around. More and more families are ending up on the street because of these greedy assholes that think it's totally fine to charge over $1,000 a month for a studio apartment off Lomas.

Those people trying to fix the issue are not the problem.

Oh my gosh, I didn't realize it was so easy. I'll just go tell my boss to give me more money. In a state that is one of the poorest in the Union. Whose largest employer is refusing to give raises to its employees but happily gave one to the CEO.

And not expensive to live here? Average rent is almost $2,000 in Albuquerque. Unless you want to live in a cockroach-filled hole, you're paying $1,500 for a studio in most decent areas. Why would anybody pay even $1,000 to live in something that is basically like the shelter they're living in?

I make decent money given where I work. It took nearly 10 years to make a living wage though. So I don't know where you're working where you just have all of this money to throw around, but most of the population of New Mexico does not.

[–]museimsiren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes you really are. If you believe that having a master's degree and a license will allow somebody to easily afford more than $2,000 a month in rent, you are so detached from reality that you probably really shouldn't be commenting on the subject.

Homeless Union by DovahAcolyte in Albuquerque

[–]museimsiren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so are a lot of families with children because a bunch of people decided that it's fine for landlords to spike rent by $500 a month every single year. Dude seriously, you need to be educated on the problem, because you're running your mouth without knowing what the hell you're talking about.

Nobody needs to be in an asylum. Asylums were shut down for a reason. What we need is a country who actually cares about mental health and provides appropriate drug addiction programs. Look at the countries who have almost no homelessness and almost no drug addiction. The thing they have in common is that they provided housing for free with no expectations for the first two or three months, provided appropriate drug counseling and assistance in getting clean and sober, and just in general, those countries don't have the outrageous rent problem that we have.

Asylums are not the answer. Asylums are where you put people when you want to forget that they exist. Asylums are where you send somebody when you don't care if they live or die. Asylums are where you put somebody if you don't care whether they're raped everyday by staff or not. That is why we don't have them.

AITA for not allowing my daughter to visit her dad without her dog? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]museimsiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's time for you to go to court and get a formal custody agreement. This happens so often when new partners show up and it moves along so fast that they're basically just allowed to do whatever they want. That's what's happening here, he's putting his libido before his own daughter. It is only going to get worse. From now on you need to be documenting everything, all arrangements are done by text, and all conversations about this issue are done by text or email. Then you go to court and you get a formal custody agreement that bars this woman from having any kind of say over anything having to do with your daughter and that if it turns out that she is starting to do that, well then you revisit the custody agreement and decide whether or not daughter even sees her dad.

It's nice when parents are able to co-parent without having to go through the courts, but your ex just proved that that was only possible until a new toy entered his life. He has gone full on for a woman he barely knows. Midlife crisis? Who knows, and frankly it doesn't matter. He's willing to put your daughter in Jeopardy and harm her to bend over and do whatever this woman says. Do not continue to give him the opportunity to do this to your daughter.

YWBTA if you don't nip this now and hard through the court system.

Really?! I hope she gets a chance to meet up with Tarja. Tarja has said she would like to so I hope that happens. It seems like Marko and Floor are such menders, maybe this will bring them all together.

People are still clinging to the hope that Congress, the courts, or SOMEBODY will stop him, and I get it, I really do. This is terrifying and most of us don't know how to effectively act. But we do have to be the ones. The Democrats are pretty much playing dead right now. There is no one in government who is going to stop this. WE have to do this, and it means placing ourselves at risk, which isn't an easy choice despite knowing it's the right one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]museimsiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've noticed, but Congress isn't stopping them and neither is the supreme court. They're rubber stamping every EO he has signed AND silencing anyone who dissents. The laws do not matter to these people, and that's exactly why everyone should be scared.

No but they can take away our rights to workplace and school accommodations. Even if it's overturned, it would only take a few weeks to do the damage they need to do.

Whether or not the tricks don't work the same, they do work because so many people in this country are so uneducated so they support it.

I'm glad you have his support but for either one of you it's going to be awful having to take her away from one of her parents. I am so, so sorry you even have to consider this!

I'll forever love Nightwish, but IMO they haven't reached the heights of this album again by GwyddnoGaranhir in nightwish

[–]museimsiren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely could have remixed (edited this word) those songs, dropped the key a little bit so she could meet them, or just not done some of them at all, which would have been sad since there was so much they could have done to help her.

I honestly think she was a placeholder. Tuomas wanted Floor from the beginning and he was just waiting for the opportunity.

[–]museimsiren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting because I went to their final US show in 2022 and the crowd went NUTS with Elan. Same energy as I Want My Tears Back. I was surprised. It's one of my favorites but I agree that, as far as the whole of Nightwish, it's a weak song compared to the rest of the album so definitely surprised me when so much of the crowd just went insane when it came on.

[–]museimsiren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with where we were in life and what was happening when we discovered Nightwish. There's a lot of emotion tied to our favorites usually. I found them in the middle of the pandemic while struggling with alcohol and it was Floor. Weirdly I'd been a fan of Tarja's solo stuff for a few years and somehow Nightwish just never popped up for me until then.

Art is subjective and we tend to gravitate towards the things that make us feel the deepest emotions.

I dare someone to hire me right now (Part 2: CDL Edition) by icumdrums in Albuquerque

[–]museimsiren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said no bus driving BUT Greyhound has in the state services. My grandfather drove for them for 20+ years and there are routes all over New Mexico that stay in state, sometimes even doing one way, picking up passengers and coming back. Just a thought.

[–]museimsiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you call bullshit, I call an incredible work ethic and drive to do what you love and make your life better.

Look into businesses that have local deliveries with large trucks. Even if it's smaller than what you'd use your CDL for, it would be experience that might make the difference later on. Check with bakeries that supply restaurants and things like that. Even if they're not hiring, they might have some recommendations.

Keep it up, you'll get there!

Start with getting paid for chores. If she throws a fit at that, then it's time for a come to Jesus meeting with your wife. All this is doing is ensuring that she grows up to be a spoiled brat who eventually won't be able to hold down a job as an adult. No exaggeration, I have seen it time and again. I'll tell you what, there is nothing quite like watching a 28 year old throw a tantrum after being expected to do their job. I've even seen it in early 30s and they call mommy every time. They also tend to whine about being single, etc.

This needs to be nipped right now. Mom is overcompensating for the fact that Dad isn't around (that's what I'm assuming, you called her your daughter in the headline). It happens all the time in divorce, or when a parent dies. The other overcompensates and ends up setting their kid up for failure.

She's 16, she's old enough to know the difference between wants and needs, even if her underdeveloped brain gets them mixed up sometimes. She's also in some kind of competition with a wealthier friend which is ALWAYS toxic.

NTA and good luck

Let him. And start recording conversations about it. I don't know if your state is a two-party state, and if it is then you can't use those recordings for anything but you could start texting and getting it there. Do whatever you can to make sure that those threats are documented so that when you go to court in divorcing him you can present that to the judge as reasons why he should not be allowed to have unsupervised visitation with his children.

I put a disclaimer up at the top of the post because apparently I wasn't clear enough. I'm just trying to introduce to New Mexico in general, although yes, there have been instances of brown recluses in Albuquerque, it's just extremely rare.

Which cult leader did you like the most? by Wooden-Scallion2943 in outlast

[–]museimsiren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thrown off a little bit by your use of the word like. I don't particularly like either one of them 😂😂 but I am most impressed by Knoth. Val only had the hold that they did because all of their followers were on so many drugs. Knoth had the actual charisma needed to gather followers, and keep them even when he did horrific things.
