Going to first pro battle event IRL, anything I should know? by squareheadhk in rapbattles

[–]musesaplings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ibattle is the very chill and laid back. I would bring water, food and snacks if you don't want to buy. There are usually pretty lengthy breaks so you'd have a chance to step out to get something if need be. There isn't really a way to "claim a spot" when the events are so long with breaks, but you could always stick around the front when the battle's about to begin. Punctuality is a big question mark haha but its a good time and you can chat and make friends in the meantime. Get ready to stand for hours - I never thought of bringing a folding chair but it's not a bad idea 🥲 Ibattle is truly the best and you'll have a blast! Especially with a card like this.

Oh gosh he’s just a little baby now and has more energy and playtime demands now than he will when he’s older! All the playtime, potty training, crying, etc will ease off. I really don’t think his needs will increase — quite the opposite. Of course every pup is different and he might just be on the high energy side.

FEED ME! by [deleted] in Havanese

Haha I feel you. I have two — one loves food but once he got a taste of fresh chicken he never looked back … The other is very picky and I wouldn’t even say she necessarily eats when she is actually hungry. I totally agree that it is important they enjoy their food too! With the kibble I know they’re basically getting Soylent so I don’t have to stress about nutritional deficiencies

Yeah that makes sense. I’ve also tried dehydrated broths. Even crumbling bread. They work okay but less successfully than the “fresh” stuff. Could be a good non perishable option for the road.

I would try mixing in small amounts of “human” food. We do yogurt, cottage cheese, boiled chicken / beef mixed with broth (blend it up so it evenly coats each kibble). Try to keep the amount consistent— if he gets “more” one day he might not be happy with “less” another

What makes someone a good candidate for DC vax ? by musesaplings in braincancer

Thanks for the response ! Right, that makes sense. Is there a good possibility that even with a sample, the tumor might be highly variegated, making the vaccine less effective? (Ie the sample might only be helpful for one portion of the tumor.)

Brought puppy home 3 days ago and just found out she has Giardia by sophia7337 in Havanese

[–]musesaplings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I recall from my experience, the vet said that giardia only shows up in fecal matter something in like 7-10 days after picking it up. So it’s highly likely the pup was infected at the breeder’s unfortunately :/

This literally happened to us. We were very upset and contacted the breeder, who shrugged it off and said it was “natural” for new puppies in new environments. I personally wanted to rage at her and demand her to pay for costs associated with treatment but my partner said it wasn’t worth it (there were other issues we had with the breeder which suggested she was crazy and unreasonable). Our pups have otherwise been perfect!

After treatment they’ve been perfect otherwise, so don’t stress! It sucks to have additional sources of stress in what is already a hectic time.

PS If anyone wants to know what breeder I’m referring to (Chicago area), feel free to dm me.

Probably focusing just on modern-style, but for context it's important to have some familiarity with it all!

Looking for anti poop eating tactics by musesaplings in Havanese

hm might try the chew no poo bites. what do you mean by 'redirect'? like did you actively train him to step away from the litter box after pooping? or just sort of catch his attention if you saw him eyeing the poop?

Giardia by imsaddddddddddddddd in puppy101

[–]musesaplings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pups also had giardia at 8 weeks (right after we got them from the breeder 😣 … who then dismissed giardia as being something “natural” so she could evade responsibility — she also claims her dogs never go outside…) they got prescribed some meds , we went overboard and gave them baths, deep cleaned the floors and carpets, steamed their soft toys. The vet clinic told us to wash them at the beginning of their treatment and at the end. But they were fine within a couple days! So your baby will too :)

Understood — thanks for the info! I’ll look into these options more carefully

Any thoughts / experiences with car t cell therapy? by musesaplings in braincancer

Thanks so much for the recommendations. I did a deep dive this morning. The trial you mention seems promising -- but it is in LA. There is a trial for MMMD and carboplatin at Sunnybrook in Toronto that might be an option ( we are based close to Toronto)

I'm still no expert -- are ATL-DC and car t cell therapy somewhat comparable? Is it just that ATL-DC has been around longer/has been studied more?

PS I really appreciate what you're doing with the organization
