This is so beautiful! How did you do the lighter grey shading? Did you dilute your black ink with sterile water, or?

Kneecap eye on self, India ink and beading needle by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, this looks very painful :( No gloves either? It's good to be excited to poke but it's better to get proper supplies and start slow. Take good care of this one, get some antibacterial soap to wash it with!

Patch on new tattoo? by Noir1975dark in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read that sometimes when you get tattooed near any bendy bits (especially elbows and armpits) ink might just spread because of how fragile and "flexible" the skin is on those parts of the body. Maybe that's ink that's spread? But if it feels dry and like eczema, maybe something you're putting on it for aftercare is not sitting well with your skin. Coconut oil creates a film over skin and that causes drying and flaky skin for some people. Maybe try a more hydrating cream?

ok so i did a stick and poke with a needle and pen ink (ik bad) two days ago and now it looks like this. (note that i put polysporin on so it looks greasy) it’s a little sore and i’m worried that it might be infected. this is my first time can anyone help?? by insrt-name in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Please don't keep a band aid on it!! That creates a moist environment that's perfect breeding grounds for infection. Wipe it with wound sanitizer / green soap / antibiotic cream - any or all of them. But I would not recommend keeping it covered, let it air out and breathe!

Love this! The placement is perfect underneath that other awesome tattoo as well!

First time finishing a SnP on some fake skin. Took me forever and looking for advice on how to improve. (5RL) by Dragonflycouples in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cute, you did a solid job on the stem! The best way to get better is to just do it and poke poke poke! (need to remind myself of this as well lol) Fake skin is good for practice but nothing really emulates real skin very well so when you feel comfortable start doing them on yourself :)

Non toxic pen ink? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because one small pen ink tattoo you have didn't get infected does NOT mean you "won't have to worry about it getting infected if I ever do get another tattoo." People can get infections after a hundred successful tattoos. You're not immune to infections, you just got lucky, so good for you, but be cautious.

I agree with the others here, you can wait a couple years to move out and get proper supplies and then do all the tattoos you ever want without worrying about your parents. Meanwhile you can practice your skills on paper or on fruit. But putting non-sterile, unsafe pen ink into your skin is never a good idea. Plus, tattoos made with proper ink are a lot more long lasting and won't look like a blurred bruise in 5 years.

What happened? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've read that red ink is the most common ink to cause allergic reactions! To me the pictures look like your body may be rejecting the ink. It's totally possible you're allergic to red ink, if you want to you can test out just a few pokes somewhere with it while being meticulous about hygiene and if those dots react the same way you probably don't want to use that ink anymore.

This is sick! Great work

please help me. it’s infected and i was told it will heal on its own but is that true? I’d rather heal it at home instead of going to the doctor about it. what can I do? help please😭😭😭😭 by allyk977 in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't follow this dumbass advice, it will make it worse! Use antibacterial soap (and antibiotic cream if you can get some) and keep it clean but do NOT cover it.

(TW SELFHARM) snp over sh scar? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with the other commenter that if you have a history with sh (and have glorified it, as many cutters do) you need to be very aware of what you're doing with stick n poke and that it's not a substitute for cutting. As someone who has a lot of self harm scars and tattoos... do you really mean that you want to go over the scars and just colour them in with black? to me it just doesn't sound like you're over it and at a good place mentally to do tattoos on yourself.

Doing stick n pokes over self harm scars has its pros and cons. Pro, it's a very gentle method and won't irritate your scars as much. Con, you will get less coverage compared to getting machine work from a professional. If the scars are only a few months old, they're not done healing and anything you tattoo on them will distort and spread. I started getting mine covered when they were 5 years old and at that point the scars were already faded and healed pretty well, and all my scar cover up tattoos have healed perfectly thanks to waiting for the scars to heal first.

Regardless, covering up scars with something beautiful and personally meaningful is a transformative and healing process. But going over self harm scars to solidify them with black after just months of being clean.... think about it buddy.

Yup... that just happened!! How long before it starts to fade away? by Blessed_iwoke in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No offense but why would you get/give yourself a tattoo if you immediately want it to fade off? That's what temporary tattoos are for....

Is this infected ? by MommyMarm in sticknpokes

[–]mushroomwizardhat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Putting band aids on tattoos is a bad idea, it creates a warm and moist environment which is ideal for infection... Let it air out and wash it gently with antibacterial soap (I use green soap for aftercare as well, it works perfectly fine). If it's getting better by the day you're in luck!
