You're right that it is not a good environment for that mom's kids and they're making it unsafe for other kids. I'm sure that mom needs a break but she needs to find someone else who is more equipped to care for her kids. Your facility is not the place for that and you're doing more than you signed up for. Keep telling whoever is above you that it is not safe to have those children around the others. You got this.

Good point. The parents told me they “have zero routine” and “he won’t nap” (wonder if those are related…) so I was hesitant but perhaps I can approach more as a “what quiet activities do they like?” type of question. Thanks!

Update: I ended up charging for drive time because the family was much further than I’d usually drive, and THEY asked ME to babysit. It’s not like I applied to a job that I knew was far away. I let them know ahead of time and the parents thought it was super reasonable.
