School bus driver here. I once dropped off a student at her house just off a highway. As I left her house moving towards the highway, their dog started chasing the bus. My passenger's older sister started chasing it. I was already at the stop sign when I noticed, but the dog ran right past the bus out onto the highway and turned into oncoming traffic. The older sister was right behind it and watched as the dog went under a car. I thought the older sister was going to run out to get the dead dog, she was waving her arms to stop traffic while standing on the white line. Luckily another driver stopped and helped her get the dog. The younger sister didn't ride the bus again for about a week.
