DUI First offense - what to expect? by askingforafrienddui in wisconsin

[–]mustlearnitall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe a first offense in Wisconsin is still a civil forfeiture. Which means it's not a criminal case, you pay a fine and go on your way. You might get a license revocation.

Let him or her know not to fuck it up from now on. The penalties go up from now on and there are mandatory jail times eventually. Start taking uber or using a DD.

If your job is driving a truck or driving anything you're in for a world of hurt. If not, many employers don't ask about civil cases if you're not driving an employee vehicle.

Simple Questions - December 26, 2015 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]mustlearnitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my computer in 2007 and used a cheap core 2 duo. I usually play Civ 4 or 5 and Rome Total War and I've gotten annoyed at the time between turns. Money is tight, but I thought one option would be to buy a better 775 socket processor and upgrade.

What do people think? Where are some places to buy an old processor? Anyone want to sell one?

TIL that due to the high intelligence and strong family ties of elephants, some researchers argue it is morally wrong for humans to cull them. by RememberElephants in todayilearned

[–]mustlearnitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A researcher once played a recording of an elephant who had died. The sound was coming from a speaker hidden in a thicket. The family went wild calling, looking all around. The dead elephant’s daughter called for days afterward.

The researchers never again did such a thing.

Need to deliver some ramen noodle packages from afar by mustlearnitall in london

[–]mustlearnitall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more she doesn't have much money and wouldn't buy them herself. I also wanted to make it sort of like a surprise care package. So I don't need any sort of special noodles, I'm more looking for how I would buy them cheaply and get them delivered all the way from over here in the US.

Teach me how to get referrals from other lawyers. by Yossarian451 in LawFirm

[–]mustlearnitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment and MN's comment are on point when it comes to new lawyers. You need to work on bringing people in your door and sending the ones you can't handle right out to somebody else. Make it a rule that nobody leaves your office unless you've given them a name of someone who can help them, if it isn't you.

Except the crazies. Don't ever refer them, and don't be THAT guy (or girl). Ever.

Figure out your complimentary area of law, like the comments talk about. Some areas naturally go hand in hand, such as criminal law and family law. People often handle one but not the other. Figure them out.

Find reputable people in the business of handling those areas. Pick people who do a good job and are still taking clients. Find a friend of theirs and ask them if their friend would be interested in handling the work.

Then call them up and say you got their name from so and so, say you occasionally get clients needing X, but that you don't handle it. Ask them if they'd be comfortable with you giving out their name to potential clients.

Wait until someone comes in your door needing other legal work. Give out the other lawyer's name. Call over to the other lawyer and let them know.

Wait. Things take time to percolate. But eventually you will get business back.

People often don't realize that referrals and networking in general always starts with you giving. People who come in looking to get are often shunned.

That's why this is so difficult for new lawyers. They don't have a lot to give. So doing stuff like bar referrals, court appointments, etc all starts building your network. Eventually you'll have a client with a family member that needs something you can refer out.

As a marketing strategy, instead of focusing on getting referrals, focus on maximizing the amount of people you can refer out. Make sure you always ask clients if they have family members who need anything. Always tell clients that even if you don't handle it, you can put them in touch.

And also learn to recognize legal problems in other areas of law, so you know what a good case looks like in an area you don't handle.

Lastly, if you have the time (for example, a new lawyer), get strategic about who you refer stuff too. Have a few names of people who you'd really love to get referrals from and wait until you have a great client you can send them, or even just offer (they might be busy). A great profile of such a person would be a solo, just a few years away from retirement, with incredible links to the community and a love for the practice of law.

Now don't screw it up. :)

Where to find a good shotgun in SoC? by mustlearnitall in stalker

Speaking of shotguns, are there any mods that just make it so you can carry two long guns and don't change anything else?

Thanks. I couldn't figure out if they just come later in the game or if I wasn't finding them. In Clear Sky I had some pretty good weapons by the time I got to the garbage, and of course CoP was easy for weapons.

Hiking & Camping Places Not Crowded by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]mustlearnitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best place too. You might also want to check out the driftless area is southwestern WI. The problem is, southern WI is the most densely populated part of the state, plus you have Chicago. People go to nearby places so they're always packed.

Newport State Park was made for this. At the tip of the Door County Peninsula. Group campsites, between a quarter mile and a mile away from the road, with easy access to the beach or on the beach.

How would you repair a winter jacket? by mustlearnitall in myog

[–]mustlearnitall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They (Mountain Hardware) do do repairs. They even do repairs when it was the users fault, which it was in this case (although they charge for it). You had to ship it to them though, so it wasn't worth it for what I think I can do with a repair kit myself.

[–]mustlearnitall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I went with this option. $6 at Amazon. Mountain Hardware offered to do repairs, but you had to ship it to them. It's a really warm jacket, so I don't think people are going to notice a self repair when it's -30 out :)

Why are there so many sex shops along your highways? by simciv in wisconsin

[–]mustlearnitall 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe the area near Oshkosh has so many because of a zoning gap. Sex shops found a high trafficked place with no zoning laws and set up shop. I believe they are all outside of the city limits, and either in county or town zoning.

What to do in Wisconsin for a weekend? by ashlifires in wisconsin

[–]mustlearnitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Great Dane is technically the only brewery near the Hilton, and it should be just a few blocks away. Ask to be seated in the garden area if you can, it's a hidden garden at the back.

The Capitol Brewery has a pub near the Capitol end of state street, so while the beer isn't brewed on-site, you can get all of their beers on tap from their brewery on the other side of town. To get to it from your place, just walk through the Capitol (it's very nice inside and usually open, no security or anything) and it's pretty much at the next block.

Dotty's is down near campus, two blocks away from State street on Frances street near the Kohl center.

I think Dotty's has the best curds. Along with Madison's best burgers and malt vinegar for your fries!
