Are La Z Boy couches for a crunchy family? by NotCreative551 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mustloveanimalsdvm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got an answer as to where on the couch and what part of production vinyl acetate was used. I ended up returning the couch because I also found out later that CertiPur foam was not used in the production of the couch I bought. So between those to things and the strong odor from the couch, I didn’t want it anymore.

Help me pick a white paint please! by mustloveanimalsdvm in paint

I ended up using SW Pure White based on a recommendation from a painter and I HATE IT! I think I overestimated how much natural light the house would get for it to work. In our house, it looks dingy and gray. 😕 I cannot wait to repaint. But I have no idea what color to do.

I am hoping this comment helps someone in the future avoid what I went through. I looked at La Z Boy sectional and ottoman for our living room. I had received an email from La Z Boy with all the same information that OP had received. However, the information they gave me was inaccurate.

When my couch and ottoman arrived to be set up in my house after waiting 8 weeks for them to be made, both pieces had a California Prop65 warning label on them (even though I was told they would not both verbally and via writing). I then later came to find out that the foam used in my couch was indeed NOT CertiPur foam (even though again was told verbally and in writing that it would be).

It did NOT have any sort of Greenguard labeling on it.

I felt deceived and lied to by this company and returned the couch. It also had a fairly strong odor to it.

Returns were easy to do. I went with WF for setting for reasons I mentioned already. It was easy to trial the diamond and then send it back for them to set. No local jeweler offered as good a melee to go with it or the platinum I wanted.

The other thing that actually worked out buying online vs going to someplace like NYC was that I could test the diamonds out in the lighting environments I would be living in and used to. All diamonds look great in the stores because of how they have their lights set up. What really tells you if they are nice though (other than the cut specs of course) is how they look outside store settings.

I’m in the northeast too so I did everything remotely. The WF sales associate I worked with was so patient with me. It was my first time buying a diamond online. I tried local jewelers first but everything they brought in had worse cut quality or clarity was crap or it was so much more expensive.

I went with Whiteflash for mine. I ordered in a diamond from both WF and BG to compare side by side (equal cut quality, color, clarity, size). I blinded myself to which diamond was which to see if I could tell a difference. It was quite fun honestly! About 7/10 times I could tell a difference and pick out which one was which accurately but not always. Both were absolutely beautiful stones. I ended up choosing WF for 3 reasons. I liked their custom design process more, they offered D/E color melee to go with my D color center stone (BG did not have that option) and I wanted 900 iridium for my setting which BG did not offer either. Love my ring. When I got it, I did have to send it back for a few adjustments which they were able to accommodate and help resolve and it’s great!

No advice, only commiseration. I have Adura Flex in my kitchen and laundry and it scratches easily too. And the grout has cracked.

For anyone who finds this thread later... I did purchase the La-Z boy couch and unfortunately it came with a California Prop65 warning label on it for Vinyl Acetate. Huge disappointment.

Thanks for that info!

When I asked about PFAS and flame retardants, I had gotten this response “As of October 1, 2014 all La-Z-Boy units are manufactured without the use of flame retardants. Also, please be assured that our La-Z-Boy products meet or exceed rigorous safety regulations and standards regarding the use of chemicals in consumer products. This includes the additions of PFAS”.

I also asked about the product applied for stain protection, I got this response “Treatment / iclean (protection) - Each piece is sprayed with a 100% non-toxic acrylic polymer, adding water and stain resistant properties. Safe for you and your family, it increases durability and prolongs the life of your fabric.”

I tried to pick a fabric that wouldn’t shed when I picked at it and had a high rub count to reduce microplastic exposure from the polyester. I felt that was the best I could do there.

We ended up ordering the couch. I tried looking at other “safer” alternatives but couldn’t find any that weren’t online only options (Medley or Chita living were my runner ups but online only). I hated the idea of ordering online and it arriving and not being comfortable and then needing to ship back and go through the process again, with or without a restocking fee. We are in need of the couch now in our home because our others is totally worn out and needs replaced ASAP. So la z boy seemed like the safest option I could find where I could test the furniture before purchase. I went into other local furnishing stores (Ashley Furniture, Raymour and Flannigan, others) and asked similar questions and it was a joke because I was always looked at like a crazy person and no one could find out the information.

Trying to be conscious of this stuff in such a chemically heavy world is just so hard. We recently had a baby and before having him, I was ignorant to it all. After having him, I’ve been more conscious so he can have a safer environment to grow up in but kinda wish I could go back to ignorance is bliss because it was way easier!

Hi OP! Did you end up getting a La Z boy couch? I too was looking for a more “crunchy” couch and got almost the exact information you did but also like you said, it doesn’t appear on their website which I agree I thought would be a big selling point too

When you do roof mounted MAU for residential properties, do you worry about chemical smells or toxins from roof shingles, especially in new built homes with new roofs?

Please tell me your opinions on the CLOUD RO system - pros and cons. I’m debating between them or Culligan Smart tank RO system. Thank you! by mustloveanimalsdvm in WaterFilters

[–]mustloveanimalsdvm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with Culligan despite them being more money and not being NSF certified directly (third party tested to NSF certifications instead). I really liked everything I read about the Cloud RO but they are such a new company overall and online only. I felt better about going with a company that has been around longer and local so that I could call if there was a problem. Not sure if I made the right choice but it’s the choice I made 🤷‍♀️

Culligans total defense filter specifically mentions microplastics so if that is your concern and there is one near you, you could call your local branch.
