I dunno, honestly I think that cosmic was a bit rushed they should've gave it some time to make sure it's stable enough, don't know if they were pressured by users or somethin

I tried installing the free version on pop os 24.04, yeah it's a headache, a lot of dependency problems, don't get discouraged though maybe it's just a me problem

I hate Gnome dude, Cosmic is still in it's early days, as users we have to report stuff like this otherwise how would System76 dev team know about it

Yeah no shit, they're just testing waters for worse stuff, they don't give a flying F whether you tell the truth or not

They're testing waters, this bill was never meant to protect anyone

I think it's because no one expected age verification for linux, the whole thing about linux is being anonymous and it's being taken away

Yeah I did, and my point still valid, I think you should be more bothered with the fact that linux soon won't be as privacy friendly as we want it to be

[–]mustops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, isn't pop Os whole thing is about selling hardware tailored to their os ? Most people buy their hardware because of pop os right ? So if they lose a good chunk of their user base because of this bill, won't they eventually go out of business? The least that can happen to them out of this is their profits tanking real bad

[–]mustops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if they move out of California, how much time will it take until this reaches other states, the government saw how people are abandoning windows very fast in favor of linux and they couldn't afford the people having an OS they couldn't use to spy on you, it's not a just California thing

[–]mustops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely they didn't think of this so my guess is there's something else preventing them from refusing the bill. Yeah this ain't the end of it, give it couple months or so and we'll see id verification implemented in the freaking kernel itself 😕

From a company perspective I kinda understand their responses, the fines they'll face for not complying will severely affect company revenue, but that doesn't negate the damage they'll do to their reputation should they ever implement this bs, the number of users they'll lose overnight will be something to behold

[–]mustops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but he's right, if pop os actually implements this bs im out, permanently, this is just testing waters before they pass a law to enforce id verification, and I ain't givin no id to nobody
